In my opinion, the Wire didn't cling to the bandwagon. They surpassed it, then they stopped, turned it over, and minded their own business. Just to take the dates: Never Mind the Bollocks was released on October 28, Pink Flag in November... but from my perspective, a single riff from "Strangled" can obliterate thousands of discographies. Perhaps they’re seen as intruders within punk because, starting from Chairs Missing, they did something entirely different... but what a different thing it was.
