I quote progrock, as always. Aside from the usual nonsense our wild boy spits out, you talk about mainstream pop as if it were a musical genre. None of the three bands invented anything. They all simply drew from influences of previous music (like everyone does, no exceptions) to develop their own distinctive style. Whether you like them more or less (I like Coldplay a little less), they are all easily recognizable and unmistakable from each other. Otherwise, clean your ears. :)))
