Johnny Cash will go down in history for his inimitable poseur manner, the outlaw vibe, like when he would walk in and say, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" with that unmistakable voice full of pathos and virility. And those somewhat macho postures? Here, instead, now old and weary, he sheds everything: only the regrets remain for the drugs that dominated much of his life and for the death of his wife June Carter, who had pulled him back from the brink more than once. His version of "Hurt" is his requiem; that song feels like the narrative of his life. It's impossible not to cry while listening.
