Congratulations, great review! It really piqued my curiosity, and since I definitely like the goth-dark ambient, starting tomorrow I will look for the CD in question.

...Why on this portal are certain people (and those who quote certain people) not prevented from posting useless comments that are clearly ignorant of the context of the review?! I totally agree with CORNELL, GIOVANNIA, and FRANTZ!
The group "mandela day" is a quartet that is celebrating 30 years of their career around this time, and while they had some low points of little musical inspiration in the past, with their last two albums they have regained their energy, sound, and charisma.
Great review mgthree, I almost completely agree with you, except when you say it 'surpasses the magnificent "Black & White"', in my opinion there are tracks in that chapter that this more recent one cannot reach.
P.S. to TOMGIL: I saw them a few years ago in concert in Verona, and Kerr engaged in dialogue with the audience entirely in Italian, the reason being that for more than a decade he has been living and managing a tourist facility in Taormina (ME).

I only correct the chorus of 'A question of time,' it's '...and it's running OUT FOR you.' I can't comment on the review, I was at San Siro. ;-)

I've been listening to it non-stop for three days: beautiful! Not exactly original, indeed, there are many hints from the previous chapter and some reminiscences even from Black Celebration, meticulously crafted as they always do, quite slow in tempo, except for a few episodes... It will gradually captivate you, oh yes, it will captivate you!
.. Thinking about June 18 makes me feel sick... still two months of waiting!!

After the first listens, it really seems like a beautiful album to me, where the opener 'Harmony Korine' is the only chapter that explicitly references the sounds of Porcupine Tree (for Mournig Palace: of which S. Wilson is the singer, guitarist, and primary composer). The rest of the album is a work of experimental prog-psychadelia that is much slower, more intimate, and personal than what Wilson had accustomed us to with his band.

Great review, I agree on the quality of this work which is surely the best album by Tiamat since Wildhoney, but I totally disagree on two points:
- "For the rest, there's the emptiness around this band that hasn't done anything else relevant." Personally, judging albums like "A Deeper Kind of Slumber," "Skeleton Skeletron," and "Judas Christ" as "emptiness" and "nothing else relevant" seems like a true blasphemy to me!
- Can I ask you where this statement comes from: "Edlund is quite full of himself and that makes him somewhat unpleasant"? Personally, I met him at the end of two (amazing) concerts in 2002 in Milan and in 2004 in Trezzo d'Adda, and on both occasions he took time with the few fans left outside the venue to sign autographs, take photos, receive compliments, and chat. He doesn't seem at all like someone who is full of himself; he might be a bit cold, but almost all Swedes are.

Hehe, I’m sorry Stanne, I actually made it while inspired by the pseudo-Scandinavian atmosphere :) In fact, I hope that thanks to the review someone bought it and is enjoying it with the snowfall today... P.S.: Thank you for the comment and the rating!

Thank you for the comments. For GASTA: honestly, I find several references to gothic and dark wave, to the point that even the store displaying the CD in the window had put a label on it reading 'Beautiful goth-ambient!' ...Of course, it's not easy to label their music, but if you look for other reviews online, you can see that I'm not the only one who finds "Dark gothic"/"ethereal wave" references in it.

In a nice interview with Tyko Saarikko, he states: 'I lean more toward the darker and more gothic bands.' See link: Rock Impressions - Interviste - Tenhi

Do we want to talk about Jonas Renkse's vocals (Katatonia) interspersed with the vocalizations of the certain Anneke V.G. (ex-The Gathering) in the song Waking Dreams?! Not bad!
As for the rest, this visionary work sounds a bit too stretched out to me... it is true that Lucassen is skilled at experimenting by collaborating with singers from so many bands and various subgenres of metal.

I agree with SOTANAHT, it's an original and incredible work. It seems almost blasphemous to me that the song 'Going nowhere', the final chapter, which for me is the most distressing, desperate, and realistic of the whole album, hasn't been touched upon either in the review or in the comments.
