The title is inspired by the "Songs of Maldoror": [quote] <<[...] and above all, like the chance meeting on a dissecting table of a sewing machine and an umbrella!>>

They were the springboard for metal for me too, when I was 13-14 years old. I've come a long way since then...

@Bartholomeus: you're referring to Anneke Van Giersbergen... I really love her voice. However, in her solo project (Agua de Annique) she loses quite a bit. I really don't like the current singer of The Gathering, and the musical direction taken with the latest 'The West Pole' seems just too predictable to me. I'll have to take refuge in the old albums (especially those from the "new course" alternative rock) :(

@Lupin, comment #34: but where the hell did you pull out that virtuosity that doesn’t even make sense even if you try to force it out with a pair of pliers and a lot of violence?! I died laughing XD

@Taurus: "Once" is much heavier sonically, more abrasive; less power and more "thrash" (of course, take this definition with a grain of salt). "Oceanborn" is a good album, lighter (even though the track "The Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean" reveals a slightly darker and """evil"""" side), and ultimately more power. If I were asked what the best album by Nightwish is, I would say ONCE. Although, as I mentioned, I have abandoned them for a while :)

To be honest, I really struggled to finish it...! Towards the end, I skimmed the text more quickly. The TBT is truly heavy. Then I don't understand this emphasis on the fact that "it's not completely metal." What does that mean, excuse me?! Power and symphonic ARE types of metal. If there's also some other stuff in between (folk-tinged pop), that's okay, but it's mainly still metal (I would add very, very melodic). I would avoid using terms like "dark"; it's misleading, I would replace it with "gloomy." The potential is all there, but you need to "adjust your aim," in my opinion: focus better and always be mindful of typos/miscellaneous omissions (which are very few here anyway). I was drooling over Naituisc years ago. I've moved on to other things (metal and otherwise) :D Au revoir!

"I also understand the point of view that consists of hating the 'imposed' stuff; that's very true as well. Maybe then the things that were imposed on us can be appreciated later, when we can decide for ourselves when and how to take them in hand."

Sorry Sid, but who was your comment #77 addressed to? :) "Alas, words... how empty they have become": you reminded me of Ponge!

"And anyway, Indian folk groups with Celtic music are really hard to find in my opinion." Those for sure! :D
