Yes, but there's a difference between well-made pop rock and crap pop rock. I believe that at least the tracks from American Idiot were catchy, engaging, with a decent structure and sound. Here the sound is terrible, the songs often make no sense, and nothing sticks in your head.

With this, I don't mean that an album has to be catchy to be good, but I think that watered-down songs that don't stay in your mind are often just made "for the job"...

Well, I specified that I don't love CALIFORNIAN punk, meaning Green Day, Sum41, Blink182, or Offspring (even though the latter I know are fun)... I wouldn't want it to be thought that I'm spitting on the whole history of real punk...

even Tankian's voice can't be heard in the latest works, eh... even if I musically like them. I'm not talking about Daron's live vocals because, as I said, I reviewed the album... regarding the lyrics, I actually pointed that out too XD

anyway, after days of listening, I've set it aside and have zero desire to listen to it again...

"You're Gonna Go Far, Kid" has a nice part copied from Muse's "Time is Running Out," precisely in the section just before the chorus: both the vocal tone at the beginning and the drums are the same!
