Because unfortunately in metal as in prog, indeed in prog it’s worse, there is an absurd mental closure. You are right to think with your own head, let’s not be influenced by labels like certain people do. I call myself Prog but I listen to everything, I can't manage to fossilize myself on something:-)
Going back to the discussion about Master of Puppets, well that’s thrash metal, it’s quite intense (especially for that time), the Alice never reach great speeds if you notice, except for "Queen of the Rodeo." The Alice are NOT a Heavy Metal band; they may have some heavy metal-derived riffs, but that doesn’t make them a heavy metal band.

Well, in pieces like Floyd the Barber - School - Paper cuts, the guitars are quite dark and heavy.. Then take Negative Creep, there's even the double kick pedal, crazy ahahahah!! With the next album Nevermind, the guitars will no longer be that aggressive, if you listen to it, pay attention. Sure, the riffs are very simple, but of great heaviness! Just think that when they had a four-member lineup, Cobain kicked out the second guitarist because he was "too metal." Even though in Bleach, it's only Cobain, Novoselic, and Channing playing, let it be clear.

I know that in metal there's this all-consuming mentality that annoys me to no end. Depeche Mode have absolutely nothing to do with heavy metal, it’s clear... But for ALICE, early SOUNDGARDEN, and early NIRVANA, the situation is quite different, believe me. Everyone knows that the music called "Grunge" comes from heavy metal. Listen to "Bleach" by Nirvana... or "Badmotorfinger" by Soundgarden... do you remember riffs like "Outshined"? Have you ever heard the early Black Sabbath?

Alice In Chains - ( Man In The Box tab ) MAN IN THE BOX

Alice In Chains - ( Them Bones tab ) THEM BONES

I can look for others too. Trust me, the guitars of Alice are very heavy metal, I have no reason to feed you nonsense. It’s not my style. Regards

Stoney, check out this tab Alice In Chains - ( Man In The Box tab )
PM stands for Palm Muting.. If your friends don’t like Alice, they’re missing out on great music and one of the most beautiful voices in my opinion. Great Layne. If you listened to Heavy Metal from A to Z, you’d understand why we say that Alice has Heavy Metal riffs! And it’s well known that a lot of metalheads like them.

Stoney, if you don't know what a guitar is, please be quiet. Isn't there palm muting in "Man in the Box"? Please stop it. I read enough nonsense on this site. P.S. Guns are Hard Rock/Heavy Metal.

One of the most underrated and unknown albums in Heavy Metal, wrongly so. Crimson is a must-have album!! Get it at all costs, 40.00 minutes that leave a mark. Any admirer of Opeth cannot miss such an album.

Maybe it's the Heavy Metal guitar? Wake up!!!! And I say this as a listener of Alice in Chains and a lot of Heavy Metal!! The self-titled album is the least successful in my opinion! :-) I still appreciate them, Alice are among my favorite bands, but I definitely prefer Sap/Jar of Flies.
