I wouldn’t reduce (almost everything) to drinking; I’d say it’s a film about friendship, solidarity, and sharing the bitterness of life, about trying to stay afloat—yes, even with the help of a glass. There are some Veneto clichés, but I don’t think they’re ever judgmental or trivialized. In short, I’d say it’s a film soaked in alcohol but also in real life, and I was genuinely moved, that’s all. Then there’s the music by Krano (somewhere between Matt Elliott and Sparklehorse—with, of course, the huge differences), which in my opinion is a perfect underscore. So don’t dismiss the idea of watching it out of hand!

Beautiful, but in my opinion the only official biography is the one entirely supervised by De André himself and written by the great Cesare G. Romana, who passed away not long ago. It was nice when Dori Ghezzi wasn't interfering and didn't talk about that time Fabrizio made baked sea bream... and I've said it all ;)
