Fred Frith Quartets

Nice recommendation, I know very little about Frith but I don't think I'll dive into listening to this album to start exploring it. What would you suggest?
Tortoise Tortoise

I think Tortoise are heavily influenced by jazz, psychedelia, minimalism, ambient, kraut, and dub, among other genres, but above all by jazz. In terms of harmonic solutions, if we take them just a bit out of their context, many passages clearly come from a jazz background!! Lewis, sorry for the question that might seem impertinent (but it’s just personal curiosity). How would you associate the term post-rock (in terms of both musical genres and types of artists; for example, I don’t know, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai, or on the Italian side Giardini di Mirò, Gatto Ciliegia, etc.)? I’m placing the review among my favorites because you’ve captured well the so-called nocturnal and somewhat atypical essence of this work. Perhaps I find it the most unique among the top three. Almost entirely played with just drums and bass, it still manages to retain that typical core of passion wrapped in a reasoning and seemingly cold exterior that often causes people to yawn on first encounters and listens (and this comes from someone who initially felt exactly like Johnwinston here above).

Why, shall we talk about the Zappa - O'Hearn - Bozzio trio in "The ocean is the ultimate solution"? The aftermath of those 13 minutes of instrumental orgasm has been devastating for me. And there’s one of the most beautiful solos ever by Frank, alongside the one in "Inca roads."

In '82 he also did that famous performance with the tele-screen behind the stage tuned to a World Cup match in Spain, if I'm not mistaken in Verona, saying something like: "if you don't appreciate my music, you can just watch the match, so you won't have wasted the ticket money".... Unrepeatable

Double report then. Alongside the excellent reviewer's, there's the precise one from Donjunio. For a newbie (in this field) like me, it’s easy to enrich myself musically, especially when visiting a site with very knowledgeable people. Then, if you place terms like folk, blues, jazz, and country side by side, mixing them in the same solution and pairing them with "the melancholic and tormented interpretation of the loser," I literally melt.
