The setlist of the tracks and Wyatt alone would have been enough to make me drop to my knees in prayer on the chickpeas, but then when my eye fell on all those guest appearances, I was struck. If there's one thing that drives me crazy (especially live), it's Wyatt's outrageous vocalizations; at first, you think he’s more stoned than Barrett's butler (which isn't entirely off the table), then you realize that he’s just like that, and in those vocalizations lies his entire soul. I remember a phrase from Cesare Rizzi describing his voice as "funny" yet beautiful, deep, and touching. I completely agree; it’s not just a voice, it’s an intersection of emotions and sensations. Talking about the album, some pieces lose a bit of depth live, giving way to (beautiful) improvisations or changes in arrangements and vocal intonations that somewhat disrupt the profound trance state that the listening experience of Rock Bottom can bring you to, but it’s right that it is so; live performances are beautiful for this. In any case, we're always talking about alien levels (for the Wyatt tracks). A curiosity: before finding the original album, I had the MP3 version with a whopping 25 tracks (1 hour and 50 minutes) instead of 14 (1 hour and 10 minutes). I don’t know if it’s a bootleg, but it's the full concert and sounds good. Some of the omitted tracks are spoken, but others are not, and it’s a real shame they didn’t make it into the final product/new remaster (I don’t understand why), like Nightclub Smokes (which is wonderful) and Flute Solo And Stuff; they could have left them in, they would have fit in the single album too at 80 minutes, damn. Then there are a couple of pieces sung by a slightly grumpy Tippett (ehem) that they probably did well to cut out :D

In my opinion, all their albums are outstanding, some more than others. I haven't listened to the self-titled one yet, but you’ve definitely lowered my expectations a bit. Great review, I agree with everything, especially the second paragraph. Anyway, I'll throw this out there: they are among the best post-rock bands of all time.

a huge filled hole (in a big way). I've started the review on this record more than once over the past few years but never finished it, good thing you did it because I was about to catch rubella :) Spacey record, Kyser's voice gets me hotter than a truckload of fags. On Elsie Crashed The Party, I’m completely splattered.

You've really tempted me to listen to the album, and I've decided I'll do it soon, while "Idioti" is still somewhere gathering (cyber) dust; I've never had the inspiration to put it on. They definitely need to be taken in moderate doses and at the right times; if you're not in the right mood, after 10 minutes you'll smash the record against the wall... it's a heavy listen, but each of their albums is something very unique. "Cuore Amore Errore Disintegrazione" took me ages to fully digest; I don't know if it's their best, but it's the album I find myself putting back on with almost mathematical consistency every few months. Anyway, I would really love to be able to listen to their instrumental "beats" too, without the spoken word over them; some of them are exceptional.

I struggled to understand the comment, and in fact, it’s still not entirely clear to me xD When you say it’s above the level of the work, do you mean it in a derogatory sense? I mean, is it too over the top or is it just way stronger than the others? When you say Tim Hardey, did you mean Tom Hardy? Otherwise, I don’t know who you’re referring to. And Jeff Bridges? Is he an example you compare to Cranston and Tim/Tom? I defend the film too, as I said, I really liked it, and it was a surprise, kind of like finding out that Affleck will be the new Batman; Argo was a nice surprise, um.

I'm sorry for the review, you always write very well and I would have given you a 5 halfway through reading, but when I come across important spoilers about the events of the film, everything else loses significance. In this case, you spoiled just the ending, huh? If I had read it before watching the film, I would have cursed you :))

I believe that to portray the role of Tony Mendez, someone more impactful and expressive than Ben Affleck would have been needed. However, I can’t say I was disappointed with him at all. The film has been praised to the heavens, so, as always in these cases, I expected a little more, but I liked it; it’s a good film, excellent direction by Affleck, and Bryan Cranston is incredible (whom I love more and more each year). Films like this are a welcome addition to today’s sea of indecent proposals.

They were great in the past, it’s been ages since I last put them on, I will never look for this ever again :D right now metal is defeated by the listening.
