Minor Threat Out Of Step
Voto:
For Minor Threat, perhaps a short and effective review, in the style of their songs, would have been better, but it's still great and works just fine. I definitely prefer Fugazi over MacKaye, just as I generally prefer Post-Hardcore to Hardcore.

But look at that now on Debaser, after reviews of paintings, video games, now there are even those for medications. Great review, you didn’t specify that one should read the leaflet for this powerful laxative first.

@Larrok: yes, I completely agree, the label "Progressive" for Kansas in their early period is not out of place, that's all, and it's definitely more coherent to attribute it to them than to Porcupine and similar bands (since they fall into the same musical vein). The true "Progressive" Rock, in my opinion, should be stuff like Frank Zappa and Faust, along with King Crimson, a term linked to a certain "evolution" or "structure" of avant-garde Rock; however, this terminology also fits perfectly for groups like Genesis and Yes (which were only later categorized as Prog), as they represent a romantic Rock that, in certain terms, is an evolution of Beatles-esque songwriting.

@Alfredo: I've never had limits on what I could listen to either. When it comes to Progressive Rock, I must say it's thanks to my father that I'm so passionate about the genre. Since I was a child, he would give me a sort of lesson with his records, making me listen to them and memorize the covers: "This is Nursery Cryme," "This is the debut of Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso"... in addition to the discography of Pink Floyd. He also appreciates Iggy Pop and Neil Young a lot, so he raised me well, I guess :D. I've explored and am still exploring many bands and genres (Kraut-Rock, Canterbury, New Wave, etc.) on my own. @Jargon: you're absolutely right, nowadays, due partly to certain websites, all the labels get confused. They think that the banner carriers of the new Prog are Porcupine Tree (a band I really appreciate, but they have little to do with Prog). And what is this Prog, indeed... people think it's stylistically just Romantic Rock and related genres, while these latest stylistic currents are the most recent to be included in this panorama.

Great catch for the reviews, they're excellent.

@Mollet: I read your "clarifying" comments, and it seems you really appreciate both genres in question (Prog and Punk), just like I do, which is quite uncommon. You also acknowledge that the review is written imprecisely; mistakes are a way to learn ;). Personal opinion: Prog and Punk are the most important attitudes in Rock. Certain bands from the Post-Rock era (Slint, Tortoise, Don Caballero...) deserve credit for merging some characteristics of both attitudes, rationality and instinct. This is why I believe the two genres are two sides of the same coin called Rock.

Too many things I disagree with in the review; first of all, those four silly chords called Punk were fundamental in giving a new artistic life to Rock and music in general. The end of the "golden age" of Progressive certainly doesn't come with a Kansas album (a band I admire very much), and even more so when you say it completely marks the end of a genre. In the '80s, there were certain bands that represent a further evolution of the genre (Art Zoyd, Miriodor, Present...). This is my opinion, not a criticism, let that be clear.

@fede: oh yes, I would like to be in the place of Arnautovic or Quaresma, I could easily do what they do ;) what Muntari does might be a bit more difficult, it's fair to acknowledge his merits; getting two yellow cards in a few seconds, including one with a superb volleyball-like block, is not easy.
