Here, Michoos hit the nail on the head; I belong to the ranks of "Tifosi Interisti," perhaps the most unfortunate circle.

@zanna: No, just the review I suggest you observe, that's enough to understand a rather unenthusiastic opinion of the product and consequently what type of disappointed fan I was referring to. The comments just reiterate the subject of the review, don't waste all your time reading them;).

Or rather, I don't share the part where it states that their last chapter is a mannerist regression; it is still a well-reasoned and personal opinion, nothing to criticize.

@ZannaB: There were many reviews of "10,000 Days," very conflicting opinions; here’s the review I was talking about, which I completely disagree with (I am also a fan of their later career, coming to appreciate all four albums equally) 10000 Days - Tool - Recensione di Stoopid

@ZannaB, I'm translating: the "2000" tools have somewhat divided the fans who previously appreciated them, quite sharply, it seems to me, almost "betraying" their origins. I'll share if I find the comments from a discussion here on Deb from a few years ago :)

The background of Tool is undeniable; it remains the Alternative/Grunge/Nu-Metal of the mid-'90s, both in style and average fan. I completely understand why some might turn up their noses when they are associated with Prog-Metal, but on the other hand, it’s the path taken by Keenan and company that changes everything. From Alternative/Grunge to Prog-Metal, the verdict is clear: Tool are the Sandro Bondi of Metal.

As a historical analysis regarding the audience that follows Tool, I think it is entirely realistic and expresses a personal opinion. After all, the perfect albums by Tool are different from each other and inevitably embrace more factions of fans from various Rock styles, perfectly in tune with the stylistic phases of the last 20 years, from the raw energy of their beginnings to the more recent contemplative and introspective concepts, which further enhances the universal value of their music. Okay, now I’m taking off these 3D glasses from 10,000 Days.

@senzastile: be careful especially with the 35007, you might return to Earth in a few light years :).

@Jargon: Yes, indeed, especially the keyboards also remind of Canterbury experimentalism, it’s worth mentioning that, given the affiliation to the Zeuhl label, I tried to describe influences that are closer, like the instrumental passages of Potemkine's "Foetus".

The review on the Demo is interesting, however I have also been waiting for the album for years, and the wait has certainly become exhausting. The issue of iPod/short-lived and disposable music is the aspect I mainly criticize in the article in question. A psychedelic angle would definitely be a nice stylistic solution to consider.

Now I understand why JDV often talks about "individuality," as it is rarely taken into consideration or respected. Articles like this one (the one about the panopticon, which practically lays out the pathetic desires of the current Indie-Snob audience) that analyze what it means to "be" according to a pseudo-fashion are truly ridiculous. If Tool read that article, I believe they would compose a double album with 8 suites in the style of Transatlantic, with Portnoy as the second drummer just for the occasion, or they would follow the holy, right path of the moment and sound like Arctic Monkeys, assuming they're in time, otherwise they won't be trendy or chic. I mean, we're talking about a 6-year wait! In 6 years, we've seen 6 editions of Big Brother pass by! Unacceptable.
