The keyboard plays a fundamental role in Progressive and it is the instrument I enjoy listening to the most (Rick Wakeman, Tony Banks, Keith Emerson ...).
John Zorn The Dreamers
Voto:
Sounds very close to "The Gift," especially in the opening track "Mow Mow." The moments of the album I appreciated the most are "Anulikwutsayl" and "Exodus."

@Frithurik: Observing my Debaser profile, you surely noticed the genres I primarily listen to, besides Prog (Psychedelia, Kraut, New Wave). Each of these genres had its own well-defined era, so I completely agree with what you say about considering "The Progressive" the period when this genre was at its peak. What I meant earlier was that there have been some very valid artists even after the golden age (we could talk about Neo Prog or revival...), in other countries like Sweden and Japan, for example, that's all. Best wishes to you for the holidays too!

@Pit: A Progressive enthusiast is always welcome to me; everyone has their own tastes and should listen to what they like, so it's good that you don't pay attention to certain criticisms they might make about what you listen to.

I believe that considering Progressive as a "period" is quite reductive, as it is a genre that has never truly ended, as many believe. Those who are passionate about and know the genre are well aware of this. Over the decades that followed up to today, it has expanded in various parts of the world with many truly remarkable bands.
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion Orange
Voto:
A 90s Masterpiece, with evident revival stylistic components, but combined with Jon Spencer's compositional skill results in an album that also has its innovative side.
Don Caballero What Burns Never Returns
Voto:
I consider "What Burns Never Returns" the album that perfects their experimentation after the two amazing previous albums, so for me, it remains their best. Since Ian Williams, in particular, left the band, Don Caballero has noticeably felt the impact on their creative level. Ian's work continues with other compelling results with Battles!
Mercury Rev Strange Attractor
Voto:
With the 2 albums of 2008, they have seen a marked improvement compared to "All Is Dream" and "The Secret Migration." Their best period, however, remains up to "Deserter's Songs."
Magma Köhntarkösz
Voto:
I believe Magma is the best band in France, considering the value of their discography and the brilliance of their style, but there are also other productions of great worth, in addition to the masterpiece "Eros" by Dun. Other high-quality Prog is offered by bands like Ange, Carpe Diem, Pulsar, or the Clearlight project by Cyrille Verdeaux. Staying within the Zeuhl realm, one could mention Weidorje or Zao.

I fully agree with this review; if Vander isn't a genius... The reviewed album and "1001° Centigrades" are, for me, their peaks.
