As for Megadeth vs Metallica, remember that it's more about personal grudges stemming from Mustaine's ousting from Metallica, and I don't think Mustaine has ever been particularly gentle with his former bandmates. Coming back to our topic, of course valid emo-alternative bands can exist; the problem is that, as with all trends, one band finds success with a certain sound and then 3 billion clones try to copy them to achieve the same success, leading first to saturation and then to the end of the genre itself. The striking cases are nu metal, punk rock, and indeed emo.
