Hello everyone,
Well, I was there back then (in the scene, I mean) and I'm still here. A few days ago, I was at Gabriele's house and I often meet with Radius. It's a shame that Formula 3 has settled for just doing Battistian evenings, but from a purely commercial standpoint, it's much easier and more convenient. What a pity. Did you know that Formula 3 is the only Italian group that has won the International Rock Music Festival at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro among dozens of world-class rock stars, in front of more than a hundred thousand people?
The news was barely mentioned, with a small article, by 'Corriere della Sera.'
No one highlighted this incredible event in which Alberto, Gabriele, and Tony were the protagonists. I wonder why.
The piece they won with is 'Aeternum,' from the album 'Sognando e risognando,' which I warmly invite you to listen to, because, in my opinion, it is a masterpiece, considering the era it was written in.
Instrumentally, no one played that well at that time, with the exception of some tracks by PFM and New Trolls. However, it should be emphasized that Formula 3 was made up of only 3 members, lacking a fundamental instrument like the bass.
Live, they had a terrifying impact, and I truly wondered where all those full, compact, and musically rich sounds were coming from. For the bass, Alberto worked on the last two strings with the octave splitter (low, obviously), and Gabriele reinforced it with the Mini Moog and the busilacchio !! Tony, of course, with the kick drum.

I’ve been playing guitar since the 70s, and I can assure you that every artist deserves a deep dive. Knowing how to play the guitar in a certain way is an expression, as much of study as of one’s own character. Mussida, Cesareo, Cocilovo, Radius, Britti are all talented in their own way, expressing a talent that many of us think we have but don’t.

It's clear that in every city there are excellent guitarists, but one in a thousand makes it. Life is also made of this. I just want to remind everyone that Radius was the first Italian guitarist to be ranked among the top three in the world by Melody Maker magazine (the other two were Jimi Hendrix and Santana), and if there's anyone in Italy who unjustly belittles him, I don’t believe the rest of the world is full of fools. Personally, I think that Radius has unmatched imagination and creativity in Italy. He never plays the same songs the same way: he always adds something different and original. With this, I also respect all the others, but on stage, Alberto does the work of three—bass, chords, riffs, and solos. And excuse me if that's not enough. If someone claims that Radius's technique is pathetic, assuming that this reflects reality, I remind them that technique has never made a musician. There are plenty of extremely talented musicians who have no musical expression. Radius has it in spades.

Lastly, for some skeptics, I suggest listening to the albums "Radius" and "Dies Irae" (the first one completely live) when almost all guitarists in Italy were playing cha-cha-cha and bossa nova. One final thing: Radius, with Formula 3 (the song was called 'Aeternum'), won the very first prize at the Maracanã in Rio, beating all the mega rock stars and groups of the time, with an international jury that had serious credentials. Perhaps it's just us who understand so much about music, and as mentioned, the rest of the world is filled with eminent imbeciles.
