Iron Maiden Death On The Road

Reading certain reviews makes me doubt that the glorious career of the Maiden is really that glorious, if it is truly the result of the reverence that people like you have for them. You have collected a series of nonsense one line after another, written with the same childish excitement as a Tokio Hotel fan on the brink of her first period. A sentence like "technically, along with a few other singers like the one from Dream Theater, he is perhaps the most gifted in the Heavy Metal genre" clearly shows how limited the range of your critical abilities is (let's say practically non-existent), although I do admire you a bit because saying two such monumental nonsense in one single sentence is indeed no small feat.

Just as background for Dungeons & Dragons, you said it right...

Realize that you have compared FABIO LIONE to FREDDIE MERCURY. You have redefined the very concept of fool. If your goal was to collect idiot figures here on deBaser, then I must warn you that you are doing a great job; if that wasn’t it, well... have a moment of self-reflection and then shoot yourself so we can be free.

You keep thinking that Meshuggah is just another metal band with a need to prove their technical superiority. Well, if you think that, then let me tell you: you don’t get it at all, and maybe that’s why you dramatically misinterpret every attempt to understand their albums.

"Well, what else is there to add? Nothing, I would say, except that the Meshuggah of 2008 are like this, not exactly convincing, unable to shock the listener; nonetheless, they still manage to produce sufficient albums and, for the most part, they are still on par with the quality of today's releases." Question: what the hell album did you listen to??

Yes, indeed. I said that metalheads don’t understand a damn thing, and it’s always good to remind them of that, for sure.

I've already said the album deserves it. I mentioned it between the lines, if you noticed well. I agree with the ratings that many enthusiastically have given, but I don’t agree with the usual reasons along the lines of “Harmony, darkness, melody, technical prowess from all the band members.” Those who say such things don’t realize that, ultimately, they are stating the obvious. I don’t understand the enthusiasm of the metalhead who neither listens to nor engages with the music but superficially worries only about judging whether it is played “well” (and beware: “well” according to their standards, which would spark an almost endless debate). “Beautiful interlude,” “very melodic phrases,” “nice riff,” what a bore, really; when I read such things, I don’t even want to discuss it and feel like sending everyone packing. Music is not this; Opeth are not just this; listening to this album and thinking “nice riff” is not getting it at all. But why do I even speak... I also run the risk of falling into the same old discussions. In any case, the apex of the review is in the line that says “good bassist who always accompanies the guitar and drums VERY CORRECTLY.” It destroyed me. I spent an afternoon asking myself, “but what the hell does CORRECTLY mean?” And then: “what would be the example of a bassist who accompanies the drums and guitar in a NOT CORRECT manner?” And also: “don’t ALL bass players who record an album do this? Doesn’t the one who played the Smurfs theme for Cristina D'Avena do it too? What kind of understanding of music does this writer have?” Well, the doubts were resolved when I finally read their username. What can I say: leave Opeth alone and go back to playing with Lego, do me a favor.

Anyway, you are forgiven, you’re a metalhead, so the intelligence discount applies to you. And don’t say no: only a metalhead can give top marks to an album that yes, deserves it, but for completely different reasons than he thinks. Don’t worry: one day (maybe) you’ll understand.

Bowman, what are you up to, what stories are you telling yourself? Dante, Petrarch, Boccaccio... you're an outdated old-timer, you're out. Instead, the real thrill for us young folks is going to San Siro with the crew to watch Blasco getting the crowd to make the pussy symbol with their hands. I mean, he's such a poet, he's way ahead of his time.
