@KEMBRUCK. Fanaticism exists in all genres, but to compare it with that of metal...
@SENMAYAN. The fact that there are so many different metalheads in metal means very little. This "variety of metal" is just the usual excuse thrown around to justify the huge artistic shortcomings of an entire genre. Just because one talks about Satan and another about battles with dragons doesn't automatically enhance the genre; in fact, it makes the clumsy attempt to seek a shred of originality even more evident. The attitudes are the same no matter where you turn, and even if now and then someone gets a couple of albums right in the sea of compositional nothingness, it still seems too little to give dignity to a movement that is honestly too vast.
@HELL. The phrase "if you were the open-minded people you've been trying to make us believe you are, you wouldn't even think about the existence of a damn class of metalheads" is a small masterpiece. But please, if you are the first to do everything to stand out and develop signals, languages, and clichés of belonging, opposing yourselves to the rest of the musical universe, you who understand, you who analyze, you who have a passion for music, not like others, you who listen to serious music that people don’t understand. Please... Moreover, if 9 reviews out of 10 contain phrases like "the greatest guitarist of all time," "genius beyond all limits," "nothing superior to this album" about works by bands that have been grinding the same old crap for decades, allow me, if not to generalize, at least to acknowledge that in the vast majority of cases metalheads certainly exist, and moreover, they are fanatics who don’t even possess half the critical ability they boast of having. Furthermore, you all define yourselves as "former metalheads," but that's an empty and nonexistent definition... All open-minded and free from stereotypes, but heaven forbid if someone touches your faith. Take care.

"In the mythical '68, the year of 68 changes" is a brilliant phrase; the more I read it, the more I want to kill myself with joy.

@PIXIES77. What have the metalheads done to me?... nothing personal, it’s just that, you know, they are a bit of strange beasts. They infest the world and on top of that, they are capable of thinking that theirs is a niche music, even though if we look closely, metal sells far and wide and practically everyone listens to it. Then they are convinced they are the bearers of the only true Word and that they have found the interpretation key not only for music but for life itself, which can be entirely interpreted through Master of Puppets and Images and Words, which are a bit like the Bible and the Quran combined (or rather, better). Furthermore, they make me feel a bit sorry when they go around saying they love Pink Floyd and King Crimson: lies, they only do it because "it has to be done," otherwise they wouldn't say abominations like "David Gilmour isn't technical BUT STILL he's a good guitarist," showing that they interpret ALL music according to the canons of metal, something they are proud of. And then, I don’t want to exaggerate, but sometimes they become a social emergency, like for example in the review of Systematic Chaos or Metropolis Pt. II here on DeBaser, where you read and think that the end of the world is near and not because of global warming, not because of earthquakes, not because of nuclear issues, but because of an intelligence crisis, a sort of anti-Darwinian counter-evolution. I hope I have been thorough, bye! :)

@FRITHURIK. Yes yes, you are the person I tolerate, I thought it was clear! You made me happy by picking up the provocation and responding in kind. I would have hated you if you had taken it the way everyone else does; instead, you showed irony and intelligence. It's always nice to have an ironic and intelligent person ;)

Yes, only for those who listen to metal. For the rest of the world, however, it's skill when a guitarist improvises new solos or even fully reinterprets pieces. This is true mastery of one's instrument as well as cohesion with the other band members and above all expressive and stylistic ability.

To me, this idea that someone is good if they can "replicate the solos exactly" has always drained the life out of me... what the fuck does that even mean, damn it... bah!!
