But why toil so much to find a valid and meager reason to like Tricarico when the world of music is vast and full of people whose genius is glaringly obvious and needs no discussion?

Starblazer, the same goes for 99.9% of the crap you've reviewed. I certainly don't mean to defend Jovanotti, but what's right is right. Regards.

P.S. I also quote Carlo Cimmino hoping that a "black book of capitalism" will soon be published that might finally cure us of the vice of self-satisfaction for having "overcome the horrors of the 20th-century dictatorships."

You see?... It's like I said in point 1 of my speech: by getting lost in such discussions, we lose sight of the little critical and constructive aspect that communist philosophy originally had. And so, the people get distracted, "give their opinions," compare... and the problems remain. And by repeatedly dulling ourselves like this, perhaps we've even convinced each other that a solution doesn't exist. Am I wrong?

Indeed, if they had given up after Awake, they wouldn't have damaged a dime. Anyway, if you're interested, even out of simple curiosity, there are a ton of live videos on YouTube where DT takes on various cover songs. There's even one of Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden: a disaster. I mean, not that I'm a huge fan of the Maiden, but they were one of the bands that accompanied me through my rock/metal adolescence, and when I heard how they covered that song which had me singing and having fun, well, I was disappointed. Unfortunately, they have this ability to act as a planer that smooths out every little imperfection; in the end, it sounds like listening to a MIDI on a computer, all notes perfectly on time, no smudges, nothing out of place. It's the same feeling as looking at a super neat and tidy room but without a shred of personality, no poster, no bright color, not a speck of dust, nothing out of place that indicates a sign of life, zero. Everything strictly standard, and the funny thing is, the more standard it is, the more the audience gets excited. Who knows? There could be a serious sociological study on this phenomenon; maybe something interesting will come out of it. P.S. I took advantage of the previous discussion to delve deeper into the Pixies. Not bad, so far, I must say, not bad...

Hehehe you remind me of the Metallica covers made by Dream Theater (I always go back to that, I know I'm monotonous!!) which are stylistically perfect but lack a shred of the anger and "grittiness" that originally characterized them, so there's no trace of the original soul of the songs and thus the cover itself, at least in my opinion, fails. I wonder if that was a choice... probably not: they can only play like that. Now, not to exaggerate against DT, but I just wanted to say that even if you're a great instrumentalist, you might not always make it. Anyway, I got what you meant, eh... no worries, this time it was just a good-natured provocation, that's just how I am. Till next time.

Two things: 1) The founders of communism were thinkers, philosophers, economists, scholars who, based on careful analysis and certainly not on random whims, clearly saw where the abuse of the capitalist system would lead: the hegemony of a few over many, a new form of slavery, domination, and oppression of every kind. Exactly where we are headed now. It is unfortunate to see that "thanks" to certain gentlemen who later stole the name of that movement, the original ideology from which they took the pretext for their atrocities is now considered automatically taboo, despite the fact that 90% of the problems it raised are still current and unresolved. So, because Stalin killed 20 million people hiding behind the symbol of a hammer and sickle, we should throw an entire ideology that advocates social justice, equality, and income redistribution down the drain, and then complain about crises, the cost of living, and wars for oil. 2) Unfortunately, the release of these pamphlets IN ITALY makes me anxious because it is not an isolated event, but is accompanied on the other side by a revisionist tendency—first promoted by "certain" politicians—regarding the fascist regime and the twenty years, who are doing everything to make it appear as the golden age of Italian history. I fear that one cannot overlook this uncomfortable detail.

Trout, from the way you write and the other comments you've left around, I can tell that for you a discussion about intelligence must be necessarily difficult, as you say. Take my advice, change your tactic: use self-pity and you'll see that someone will be moved, and if you're lucky, they'll fall for it too. Bye.

Uhm, actually I believe that’s not really the detail to take into consideration when listening to a Pixies track, like the bass in 4/4 on the intro or stuff like that. I don’t know them well, but I know they are a band that has made that minimalism their banner. The key is to understand whether such a lack of refinement was truly functional to what they wanted to express or if it’s just a result of carelessness and inability. I lean towards the first hypothesis, honestly, also considering the fame of a band like that, and I don’t believe in the myth of the "incompetent musician" anymore: at certain levels, all musicians are good at playing their instrument professionally, if only for the decades of experience they can boast and for having lived a life on stages around the world. Not to mention they are always supported by top-notch arrangers and sound technicians who are terrifyingly skilled, capable of shaping sounds as if they were play-dough molds. Even the most incompetent band in the universe would have infinite possibilities to artificially compensate for their deficiencies, at least in terms of studio rendering, so clearly if that’s the final result, it means that’s exactly what they wanted... right?

It's not about women; it's that Ludovica is a person who thinks and shows intelligence in her contributions, so I enjoy talking to her. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about many fans of Dream Theater. Regards.
