HIM Deep Shadows & Brilliant Highlights
Voto:
Even though I can't stand Valo and his poor man's "poser" attitude, I have to admit that this album is nice. I liked it quite a bit. Their debut, however, remains their best album, in my opinion. Love Metal isn't bad either. Razorblade Romance gets on my nerves, and Dark Light is even worse. Venus Doom is well done.
P.S.: Valo, despite your nice voice, just screw off...

The review is really well done and thoughtful. Personally, I don't know this group and, honestly, I'm the kind of person who lives on hard 'n heavy. I would like to know what genre these guys play and what their best albums are. Thanx!

What do you mean by "the name of the group suggests the intellectual level of its musicians"? If you had even dared to listen to it even briefly, you would have realized that the lyrics (souls of black, and justice for all, peace sells, master of puppets, and rust in peace, just to name a few randomly) are very committed and not suitable for a group of morons who love listening to crap blasted on MTV or the radio. If you're a power metal fan, raised on a diet of DRAGONS & SWORDS, then I can just tell you to GO FUCK YOURSELF!

Well... personally I think their best album is the second one, "Sonic Firestorm." The first one disgusted me while the third, this one, is a copy-paste of the previous one. This genre isn't strictly power-metal (Herman Li, I believe, played in a black band before founding Dragonforce) but, to be fair, after the first two songs my patience explodes. Way too lengthy and inconclusive.

P.S.: for those who are convinced that metal is dead, I suggest they bury themselves with their own hands.

Friend, if you love thrash, try listening to Pestilence (assuming you haven't already), Artillery, Assassins, Attomica, Hyrax.... and then.... ugh! There are so many underrated and overlooked bands that played in the underground and then, who knows why, after their first debut, they threw in the towel. Anyway, this album is totally awesome!!!!

Nice review. Vasco, I hate you; I've never been able to stand you. You are the true ruin of music. When they lynch you, it will always be too late.

Well.... HIM have always thrown me off. Apart from their first album and "Love Metal," I struggled to digest the others. "DEEP SHADOWS AND BRILLIANT HIGHLIGHTS" was nice too.... I find Razorblade Romance too pop-like and very commercial. Dark Light is an outright copy-paste.... I really hope for this last one, at least considering the reviewer's words.

But weren't we supposed to comment on the review....?????
I, however, have only listened to the single and Bye bye beautiful and, to be honest, especially the latter reminds me a lot of early Evanescence. Too industrial and nu-metal, very little of the gothic-power that made Nightwish immortal. Just my personal opinion.
As for the new singer.... I don't mind her at all, both as a woman (what a gorgeous piece of work!) and as a singer. Obviously, Tarja is from another planet, but what can you do......
Anyway, I’ll still buy the album.....
