Punny, you've really messed up here: "the concept of 'cover' belongs to a posthumous period to those years... the thinking back then was more or less 'if a song already exists, why redo it?'" What are you talking about? The concept of a "cover" has existed since the early bluesmen who reinterpreted traditional pieces or those of other musicians, and in fact among the titles you mentioned, at least "House of the Rising Sun" is not by Guthrie.
