Just finished quoting the soundtrack of the film on Dexter Gordon's page from Uxo, and here I find Malle's masterpiece reviewed, not very favorably, to be honest. The soundtrack here, instead, is essential, more so than the (excellent) acting of the protagonists.

This is a fantastic record, as you say, with a brilliant 4tet in terms of sound and ideas. Michelot is one of the greatest French bassists of all time (see also the soundtrack of "ascenore per il patibolo" by Davis). Some historical inaccuracies, but a beautiful piece, well done!
