Larrock sounds strange to me since practically all the jazz records I have always indicate the day of the recording (the day!) but I've never seen the release year of the record... then regarding your point, if they were released 30/40 years later they are leftovers, well I would be cautious because there are masterpieces that came out 30/40 years later, like Monk & Coltrane "At Carnegie Hall," and hugely important and beautiful records like George Russell "In K.C." that have nothing to envy to his more well-known masterpieces, and there would be many others...
Live from '72...

not a masterpiece but really cool (maybe my favorite by Burton)

From those you mentioned, Conte, I only have the "imro vol. 2" by Corea, and it’s phenomenal. I’ll make sure to get "vol 1" and "Open To Love," which I happened to listen to and found enchanting right from the start; I’ll take care of that...

I rely on the release dates (there are records from the 60s that came out this year, and what do you say is the best album released in 2009?) I can't be certain of the exact release date of old records (I wasn't there), I trust the recording... Anyway, as you say, it's a matter of taste, but I still prefer the others; I agree with the COUNT.

BUBI by Cannonball, I recommend (among those I know obviously): "Somethin' Else" (a masterpiece with Miles), "Things Are Getting Better" (with Milt Jackson), "Them Dirty Blues." Unlike "Caravan," I don't find "C. Bossa Nova" that essential, but... Rollins hasn't been mentioned (as far as I remember), but for me, they are essential: "Freedom Suite," "Sonny Rollins On Impulse!," "East Broadway Run Down," and the delightful "Alfie" (the soundtrack of the film of the same name).

Interesting, I have nothing from Ribot, maybe I'll start with this...

of hard bop '62 I prefer these: Art Blakey Jazz Messengers "Caravan", Thelonious Monk "Monk's Dream", Sonny Rollins "The Bridge" and "What's New?"

A great record, but for me not a masterpiece, and I have doubts that it’s the best one released in '62.
