But what does what came after have to do with it? What came before is much more important, as you yourself say. The birth of 1000 singers who are inspired by Axl Rose says nothing about his actual value; the argument you make would apply to Jagger, to Tyler, to Scott, but certainly not to Axl Rose, who arrived late and didn’t bring many innovations compared to his predecessors.

So the ranking is based on the influences they've had? I mean, Axl Rose has had 200 "epigons," Van Morrison fewer, according to what you said, and this would justify the fact that among the "Greatest rock male singers of all times," Axl ranks higher than Van? And so, do those who rank above Axl have had more epigons? That doesn’t seem to be the case at all.
