"Krautrock" is commonly used to describe all those German Rock groups that emerged in the '70s. Krautrock includes the Faust, but also Neu! or Kraftwerk: groups with the same nationality, from roughly the same period, but STYLISTICALLY VERY DIFFERENT. The music of the Faust has little to nothing in common with that of Kraftwerk; they are two bands belonging to two very different genres, yet part of the Krautrock movement. To say "Krautrock" is like saying "New Wave": it's a movement, a collection of genres and bands that are often very diverse from one another. Pere Ubu were "New Wave," but so were the Cure; yet they have almost nothing in common. The same goes for Krautrock. And TO DISMISS the Faust as "Krautrock" is perhaps the most superficial and foolish thing I've ever heard in music. You reduce a group that is so avant-garde and "ahead of their time" that their contemporaries couldn't comprehend them, that they struggled to understand their music: it took 10 YEARS for critics to realize what a MONUMENTAL band they had in front of them. You label the Faust simply as "Krautrock," but shall we talk about the message of their music, the aesthetic exaggeration of the obscure and dark, the exaltation of chaos and irrationality, the expression of anguish and violence, often intertwined with the grotesque and the absurd? And the lyrics were no different: read the lyrics of "Miss Fortune": "dirty" poetry, as dark as it is profound and intense. To define the Faust with a simple "Krautrock" is offensively superficial. As for Bjork, her genre is not easily definable because she makes experimental music, and, as Il Mago said, one must evaluate album by album, precisely because each album presents new elements compared to the previous one. Essentially, on the broadest level, Bjork makes hybrid Pop-Rock/Trip-Hop characterized by Electronics.
