Look, Loreena may not be to everyone's taste for all the reasons in the world, because "she's boring," "she's dull," "such a drag," "she's depressing," "she's not my genre," and so on; in fact, I would start to worry more if she were to please the whole world. However, there is one thing that annoys me so much, and that is the HORRIBLE habit of putting her on the same level as any cheap new-age ditz, Enya-style, (like those whiny ducklings YouTube video non trovatoYaqQnhBtxaI) or even worse, considering her as just a soft alternative for poor metalheads looking for a break from their usual noise. Because Loreena is simply NOT that. And her imagery, cultured, refined, and of great depth, is much more painful and human than one might think... Far from fairy-tale worlds and dreamlands... I'm sorry that many still have these stereotypes in mind. It's one thing not to like her, another to misinterpret... Bye...

I reiterate: congratulations on your charm, really. And on your immense cleverness. Now you can also go adorn your glans with a stapler.

A bit of a disappointment. Some noteworthy pieces, but for the rest, it didn't seem like much—just the usual traditional songs rearranged with zero innovation... Not that I expect her to do any groundbreaking experimentation, mind you!, but the last album of true originals was "An Ancient Muse" (absolutely magnificent), while the subsequent "A Midwinter Night's Dream" was already a Christmas collection of traditional songs, without too many pretenses. In short, I was expecting the usual McKennitt-style journey and instead had to settle for a stroll through the small woods behind my house. Here, all in all, we find moments of self-recycling (if not even the same melodies..) and pieces that are indeed very pleasant but fleeting... Of course, it remains a lovely experience in any case. And that would be missing.

I'm a poor fool. "The Mantle" and "Pale Folklore" better than this? Of course not... In hindsight, "The Mantle" is the album I like the least from their discography (and by "like the least" I mean it's sitting at a 4.5, still at very high levels). This one is terrifying; sometimes I'm even afraid to listen to it. Sooner or later, though, I'll get a tattoo with a couple of lines from "Bloodbirds"...

Oh, maybe it’s because I woke up half an hour ago, maybe it’s because I went to bed at 5, maybe it’s the blood alcohol level still off the charts, but how is this review written?!
