Cynic Carbon-Based Anatomy EP

Well, I don’t know, it’s a good job but it didn’t impress me much... Maybe I need to listen to it a bit better. Among other things, "Traced In Air" is aging poorly. (off topic: don’t steal my reviews of My Dying Bride and Thy Catafalque, they’re mineee!!)

The only part I’m not convinced by is indeed the first part of "Folklore," which is quite limp; the rest I thoroughly enjoy. It would be a 4.5.

Don't hold it against me, the review is obviously well written but in my opinion, Meme (as usual) had said everything there was to say.
Blut aus Nord 777: Sect(s)

Some people talk about this group (or this album) in reference to the more canonical and extremist black metal... And they're wrong, because except for the early albums (and "Memoria Vetusta II"), BaN only have the vocals, now even distorted and reduced to an unrecognizable hiss, and some hammering rhythms... For the rest, it has nothing to do with black as many understand it (shoddy production, Norwegian forests, face painting, and so on). That said, it can still suck even more because it is more dissonant and anti-musical than black metal itself. That being said, I intended to write the review but I think I’ll do a single review of all three episodes together when I’ve listened to them all ("Cosmosophy" will be released next year) and have formed a precise idea of the whole. I give a solid 4 to this "Sect(s)" individually (no more because that seems too exaggerated, sometimes it makes me nauseous how out of its mind it is), but perhaps it will gain points when the trilogy is complete... For "The Desanctification," however, a 4 and a half, and I have the feeling that "Cosmosophy" will be the best of the three, perhaps leaning more towards the more experimental/industrial side of Blut. In any case, if this group didn't exist, we would need to invent it, just like Deathspell Omega (and they are neither better nor worse, they are simply different in means and concepts). Kudos to Gate for mentioning them; they deserve attention.

A disc from the little Madonna of Medjugorje. Here, if there’s one annoying flaw that all "blackgaze" groups seem to share, it’s the duration of their albums: most of the time they barely reach around 40 minutes, just look at the latest Lantlos. This one, however, is different: 65 overflowing minutes of atmospheric black metal that, despite seeming like "just" a mix of WITTR, Agalloch, and Alcest, still sounds extraordinarily personal; perhaps because these bold Fen are so connected to their land and draw all their inspiration from it (the characteristic landscapes of the Fen islands, to be precise). Another black album tied to nature, another masterpiece, "Carrier Of Echoes" its crowning jewel ( ). You should buy the gorgeous digibook, it doesn’t cost much at all, it's cool, there are two cool bonus tracks, and it contains a pile of even cooler pages filled with stunning photos that complete the work (not to mention the lyrics, of course). 4.5

After leaving The Gathering, Anneke has only made nice records, but really nothing outstanding. If it weren't for her voice, nobody would care about them. Anyway, I don't agree with Psycho; in my opinion, Silje and Anneke have two different timbres and techniques (let's say that Silje has a softer and sweeter voice, while the other lady has great power and is definitely more versatile), and "The West Pole" is still beautiful. But I'm too biased...
Cathedral The Guessing Game

Agreed 100%. Out of their minds, crazy and badass, overflowing with ideas (and riffs). Probably Cathedral did better with their early albums, who knows, but I don’t care, this has become my favorite by Dorrian and company. :)

“Ashbringer”? But you’re not telling me that now, after all this atmospheric blackness, you’re going to review “Epoch” too, are you? :)
