Charlie Brooker Black Mirror 4
Voto:
What I appreciate most about Black Mirror is its extremely high production and acting quality. Hats off, really. In this latest series, I've only been impressed by "Hang The DJ" and "Black Museum"; everything else is, for me, forgettable (except on the technical/production side, of course).
Gareth Edwards Rogue One
Voto:
I saw it again yesterday for confirmation, and it's really a load of crap.. Edwards' talented touch is evident in three or four scenes (all involving spaceships..), while the childishness and carnival-like scenes dominate.. It's a truly unamusing Disneyland attraction.. My mistake: I really need to stop with Star Wars and PG-13 sci-fi movies..

Nothing, I ended up on the floor at the "Tank you"...
Andrés Muschietti It

It has never made sense to compare a book to a movie, let alone in this case... It's a horror film that works, acted and shot quite well, and frankly that's all I need... After all, we're in 2017 for crying out loud...

"I didn't understand"... Because you don't understand a damn thing...
Just kidding, buddy! Go see it, preferably at the cinema, because the audio and the quality deserve bows and reverences... Or at home if you have a seriously good setup...
There's a story, both the one narrated by Nolan and the one with a capital S; there's pathos to spare, climax and anticlimax that are terrifying, a perfect reconstruction... Probably there won't be more war films like this, or maybe, and that would be fantastic, Dunkirk has set new standards for historical reconstruction... An excellent trend, already offered to the general public by works like "Fury" for example, which I won’t comment on regarding the screenplay but is really well done in terms of production and setting...
What clashes for me is the insertion of a war story into a precise, mechanical, mathematically calculated framework down to the eleventh decimal... Just my perception...
I won't insist on Nolan's talents; I've stopped making definitive judgments for a while... As a director, he's marvelous, the environmental rendering is moving, and the colors are beautiful even though the gray tones dominate... As for the screenwriter, I raise my hands: despite the aforementioned limitations, I challenge anyone to put down a script so precise and measured...
If I've further confused your ideas, go watch the movie 😉
Martin Scorsese Shutter Island
Voto:
One of the few films I couldn't watch all the way through: I threw in the towel at the cat lady in the cave... I found it boring, glossy, and completely unconvincing. The rapid succession of visions/nightmares is tedious and bordering on ridiculous, and besides, I figured out after 10 minutes that DiCaprio, particularly ineffective here, is the crazy one, though I have no idea how it ends. I really appreciated Mark Ruffalo, but this Scorsese is definitely not for me; it feels like he did it all just to curry favor with the Academy. One of the saddest things is the scenes with fake backdrops, approximate and unbelievably phony. For me, undrinkable.
Neill Blomkamp Chappie - Humandroid
Voto:
What a waste... Of atmospheres, ideas, actors, special effects... A film that sets up a very interesting universe and then completely ruins it after ten minutes... Pathetic and ridiculous, I’m amazed that someone gave the green light to such a project; probably the person who did hasn't watched Elysium... I don't understand if Blomkamp is serious or just playing with us... Moreover, his godawful habit of portraying criminals as wise guys and high school philosophers is irritating before it’s even ridiculous... They did well to slap him with the Aliens 2 story, hopefully he’ll get it together! Great acting, Ninja is truly excellent; it's no coincidence he's a rapper, so he's perfectly cut out to be an actor... Stay away from this mess...
James Cameron Titanic
Voto:
You've hit the nail on the head. A film that says nothing that an average intelligent person doesn't already know (and therefore for Americans, this is an almost didactic film...) and has set new standards for special effects and popcorn sensationalism. Basically, this is what Cameron does now: every few years he raises the bar and proposes new ways to dazzle the audience, obviously neglecting narrative depth. Like Avatar, this is the classic film that you watch once out of curiosity and that bores you after ten minutes the second time around.
Ron Underwood Tremors
Voto:
A film where a bunch of drunken, depraved losers, living in a hole in the ass, would screw their own mothers for a handful of dollars, have to face a pack of giant worms that suck goats from beneath the sand, run like Bolt, and smell like Fedez's entrepreneurial curve..
I mean, what the hell do you want more? Nothing like this will ever exist again.
And remember, the living smell worse than the dead..
Jordan Vogt-Roberts Kong: Skull Island
Voto:
Well done, clear and precise analysis. Legendary is doing well with this ā€œmonstrousā€ franchise, which is entertaining and engaging just enough. I can confirm that the visual component works great here too. With an entire island at his disposal, the director (otherwise unknown to me) moves effectively through varied spaces and glimpses that give some scenes an absolutely epic character. A nice rhythm, a direct approach, and a pop/Japanese imaginary in the design of the creatures that convinces. Kong has finally become a modern monster: dynamic, violent, extremely angry, and lethal. His empathy towards humans (at least, those who are friendly to him…) can perhaps be explained by his primate nature, but rightly the film leaves all of that in the background. It could have turned out to be a mess, but it has come out as a nice adventure film, solid, with a broad vision and a fitting soundtrack. Great job George C. Reilly, excellent Tom Hiddleston, who with his aplomb and British accent stands out as a semi-hero of another time, while Samuel L. seems rather tedious in the role of the tough black guy. Now we’ll see what happens in the next chapters, because as can be inferred from the very last scene, Legendary wants to include just about everything; let’s hope they propose equally well-made works...
