If I'm not mistaken, there is a comic book adaptation with a distinctly pornographic tone... But I have no idea if it retains anything from the original book...

I increasingly feel that HPL has not been well understood by many commentators and especially by many "artists" who "interpret" his works. The focus is often on some pop leitmotifs, and the so-called racism is one of those, arbitrarily compartmentalizing the complicated, morbid, contradictory, and absolutely original thought of a thinker who had in his mind a flow, a congeries of ideas not dissimilar to those plastic and indefinable beings that populated his nightmares. Not to mention the heroic and scientific rejection of the real (a highly potent logical contradiction) that particularly characterizes his later works.

I have always been against "curated" collections (that is, stories thrown together and translated poorly...) of HPL, let alone if I view an initiative like this favorably! I'm stubbornly giving it a 1 because I'm 100% sure it's just "a delirious hodgepodge where everything flows together without a real distinction between quality products and trash," to use your (too generous) words. Unfortunately, HPL's literary luck has backfired onto the tired and clichéd tropes that range from tentacles to black kittens, from the Necronomicon (enough...!) to the madness of the Ancients, and down to some cash-grab blasphemies and Cthulhu sleeping... Basically, today’s sloppy and nerdy fandom, justified by idiots like Stuart Gordon, RPGs, and embarrassing "social" and audiovisual initiatives, has completely missed (because they haven't understood it at all...) the nihilistic, cosmic, and irreplaceable message of such a complex and non-immediate author. The easy-peasy referencing, shoved everywhere between comics, films, and video games, only serves to weaken the very work of a mysterious author who is at times morbidly hallucinatory. Sorry for using your writing to unleash an unsolicited editorial, but I have a complex relationship with HPL, and there are certain things I just can’t help but express... Thanks!

Your two words have only two possible outcomes:
Or:
- You're fucking with us, and you're not making us laugh at all;
Or:
- You didn't understand a damn thing, and this is where we end it all.

Hodgson is a somewhat neglected author, stylistically not always effective, sometimes wooden but exceptional in his fantastic/horrific progression. He certainly deserves to be rediscovered, especially because he sometimes displays a "detective" vein that is surprisingly ironic at times. "The House On The Borderland" is perhaps his most well-known work, although it lacks some of his typical ingredients, one of which is the mystery of the ocean; however, as you rightly point out, it has sci-fi and cosmic glimpses that remain indelible. WHH has written some maritime tales that are true gems, particularly "The Voice In The Night" and "The Derelict." In other novels, he can be more chilling and morbid, but here the allure of the unknown dominates from beginning to end, making the book a ride that truly instills fear. In any case, his complete works can be easily found in electronic format, in the original language and at a trivial price. Take advantage of it!

A rather heavy and ineffective review.. I'm listening to the track again now, it works really well and I believe it's the second best on "Discipline" after Matte Kudasay.. The rest of the album is technically very interesting, but forgettable..
