For Arianna. I agree with much of your comment, I just don't see anything wrong with trying in showbiz. And the fact that Starlight is constantly playing on MTV (I believe Easy mentioned this) does not diminish the value of Starlight or of Muse, but rather, in my humble opinion, elevates the level of the music played on that network.

I don't know if Christian, Mika, Lux, or anyone else knows Slint. Even if that doesn't NECESSARILY make him ignorant. And it's annoying to read it repeatedly. Just as annoying as Jannus attacked you at the beginning. Just as I found one of Mika's early comments annoying, where the debate ignited. Lastly, I find the complete inability to form a coherent debate frustrating. Mika and Christian made references to specific choices by Muse on HOW to convey their poetic vision. Mika may have gone on a bit too much. And I haven't read concrete responses to such critiques.

For Easycure and for sveglio (whether they are the same person or not, I don’t know and I don’t care… for the record, there’s internet in Rome too). Go ahead and check the IP addresses, ask the editors or NASA. Back to the music field… I believe that Muse have their own poetics and a unique style (which may be liked or disliked, but that’s another story). Moreover, I think that drawing inspiration from something already done is not inherently a bad thing. I don’t believe that Renoir or Degas are any less valuable than Manet or Monet just because they drew a lot from the latter, while still personalizing their insights.

I'm out for a weekend and all hell breaks loose... :-). Regarding Lux: I believe that to critique, you need to understand at least a bit about it. About everything... if I know nothing about economics and the laws that govern the market, I'm certainly not going to critique the budget! If I don't know about music, I'm not going to critique a band or an album. I just limit myself to saying whether I like it or not.

No Jannus... easyJet is smarter than you think! They've even changed their emojis. From :-))) to :O)))
Jokes aside, you still haven't answered my question. Do you think Muse are a mediocre band because they haven't really said anything new and make the music they do just to sell, like Linkin' and BSB?

I won't even comment. I'll just say that it's not a race or a competition. At least not for me. I try to understand other perspectives and I don't need tricks...

Let me get this straight... You say that Muse are just a little band because they haven't really said anything new and make the music they do just to sell, like Linkin' and BSB. Right?

A quick comment on the debate. Mika83 may have gotten lost in too many details while explaining the songs (which I now appreciate even more because I noticed things I hadn’t seen before), but he connects the meaning of the album with the emotions expressed and how they were expressed. And you have to give him credit for that... just for the sake of honesty. Then you can also say that you disagree, but that's another story. Instead, it seems to me that you haven’t expressed consistent judgments. You said that Muse are post-something, that they draw from this and that, that the voice is too much in falsetto, and similar arguments. My question is: what’s the problem with all that? Why should they suck because of this? Where is it written? Even Queen were never appreciated for their way of making music, yet they are perhaps among the most genius bands that ever existed! Definitely my favorite. Finally, I think there needs to be a balance between experimentation and harmonic lines. And I believe that the compromise of Muse is excellent. One last thing, Mika83 definitely made a mistake by getting too worked up and insulting. But you never argued... in his posts, the message and the sense of criticism were clear, while you keep going around the same concept without ever providing logic to it. This was a very personal constructive criticism, and I hope I was able to help you improve further.

Dear Mika83 and easyqualcosa... what a fascinating debate! Seriously! I like Muse, so what I'm about to say is partially biased and opinionated. I’ll start by saying I'm not a music expert, but music is art, and art is based on two pillars: TECHNIQUE and EMOTIONS. Am I wrong? If this is the premise, it LOGICALLY follows (I'd throw in an Aristotle reference here, just casually...) that Muse is a good band. Perhaps one of the best around.
You might ask me, especially easycare, to elaborate on my statement. Quite simple. Just by listening, you can tell how virtuosic they are, skilled at playing, with a clean and well-controlled voice, etc. I know these aren't technical terms, forgive me... in my opinion, the drummer is also genius, able to maintain incredible rhythms and tempos, with numerous variations within the same song. I’d say that TECHNICALLY they’re not to be disregarded... what do you think?
As for emotions... I’d say they come through. And quite well, I might add. After all, you've confirmed it yourself, easy, in your posts, that the emotions are there. If you then attend a live concert, you can't help but be thrilled.
