That being said, it logically follows that DT and Muse are not two good bands, because their poetics, that is, how they communicate what they would like to convey (in a more or less pretentious way), is not very original and not very spontaneous, constructed, etc. I repeat, if I'm wrong, correct me...

Here I am, finally a moment of time. I was saying, after reading your review of Dream Theater, maybe I understand what you mean. The DT (and Muse in parallel) are too "sophisticated," allow me to say it loosely. In the sense that all their flourishes are self-serving, and by being overly elaborate, they lose the immediacy of communication. It's no coincidence that you mention Radiohead (I don't know them well, but from what I've heard they certainly don't indulge in virtuosity) and Nirvana (who are anything but refined). Correct me if I'm wrong...

Marked titles. I also read a part of your review on the DT and the ensuing debate... I believe I have a better understanding of what you mean. I don't have time right now, but I'll comment as soon as I can and we can discuss it, okay? Bye and have a good day.

Arianna, I don't know if this is a concerted strategy or if they're just trendy right now... what I wanted to say is that a song isn’t necessarily diminished just because it's on MTV. Even "Losing My Religion" plays occasionally 15 years after its release. Does that make it less beautiful? Christian's question is what I would like to understand too (and I'm not being provocative, just to avoid misunderstandings)...

As much as I disagree with your opinion on Muse, I really liked this review of Slint. I don't know them (I'll look them up, actually if you could recommend me a few representative songs I'd appreciate it) but I'm sure that upon listening I'll be able to evaluate what you say. In your previous reviews of Muse, however, I only saw positions being taken.

On the last distortion, more or less intended, we really disagree. No, no, no... you see that a) you still respond by trying to put your interlocutor on an inferior level, and b) you actually confirm what I’m saying. Even more so if it was only related to the "way of presenting... which is completely non-explanatory, non-analytical, doesn’t say anything in fact..."... why don’t you try asking him if underneath that nothing there isn't actually something concrete that you don’t know or haven’t seen?

So. To clarify. I read the whole discussion. And I've already said that I found Mika's comment, which sparked the debate, annoying. But then he argued his points. Regarding the Slint, I may have misunderstood the tone of your repeated questions, and I apologize. As for the poetics, no. I might be foolish (those who know me would confirm...) but it seems to me that you're saying their poetics are neither original nor spontaneous, that they are artificial, etc. ("their poetics are silly, because they lack anything unique, personal, or truly expressive")... if I'm mistaken, let me know, but if your critique is really this, then I respond that, in my opinion, Bellamy & Co make great use of Labor Limae, which certainly removes spontaneity, but enhances balance and expressiveness in the pieces, and they have nonetheless achieved their own style. The latest album is proof of that.

Do you know what I dislike about your comment? That you don't try to understand. You assume you're right (maybe you really are) but it seems you don't care about other people's perspectives. In fact, you mock them. Are you really so arrogant and presumptuous to think you can’t learn anything from others? Or that you must always be right across the board? I hope you’re responding like this just for your own sophistic personal enjoyment in the discussion...

I quote your post literally. "One must also say that this taste for repetition and the excessive desire to amaze refers to baroque music (which our poor easycure doesn't even know what it is) and is a consequence of a musical need for communication and emotions." WHAT does it mean, musical need for communication and emotions? HOW are these emotions transmitted? WHAT does it mean and HOW is the reference to baroque music an indicator of the need for communication and emotions? WHAT does a sentence like yours, which in itself makes no sense, mean? Substance, guys, there is a lack of substance... we are not drafting a shopping list... we are critiquing... but here everything is missing... I quote a phrase from the good Mika, very fitting for your last post: "I think his critical ability is reduced to a pure display of names" eheheahah ;-D

Finally, returning to easy, Mika did nothing a priori. And I believe he demonstrated more than necessary with the long description song by song. And don't tell me that describing the techniques used isn't criticism, or that these techniques aren't poetry, because otherwise Virgil and Petrarch are two of the greatest failures in the history of the universe with their LABOR LIMAE.
