That snare drum drives me crazy; in my opinion, an overall arrangement done better would have improved the final quality of the product, which, as already mentioned, is nothing particularly memorable but not the worst you could expect either... I believe the same songs with a regular snare, trimmed here and there and with a few solos, would have gained a lot... let’s hope that the mistakes will help understand that the path to take is a different one...

It's true it's a bit heavy, repetitive in certain parts, but it's a breath of fresh air (the second one after Garage Inc) after 12 years of holding my breath, first due to inactivity and then due to the quality of the work.

A unique album, light at the end of the tunnel entered in '96... but not much more, still better than nothing.

The album is not particularly exceptional in itself, but it has one great merit: it brought Metallica back to a rougher, meaner, and more violent music like what they used to do in the beginning. However, it has many flaws; it's not so much the songs themselves that are unconvincing, but rather the overall arrangement done on a computer. The sound of the drums has an unreal quality that becomes tiring and nerve-wracking after a while. The much-discussed bass drum of ...and justice for all... is far better. The absence of a solo, all riffs o'rama, but Kirk doesn't deliver any solos in this album... what a shame because "in nuce" the four seem to indicate that they have technically grown, and it would only take some more complex work to showcase the level they've reached... let's hope for the next one; the premises seem to be there...

Great review! I also agree with what you wrote, the latest well-done work by Metallica...it's even well played!! :D

Good album if it weren't made by the same people who did Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, And Justice for All,... and yes, in the end also Metallica compared to this..., but it was made by Metallica!!! So, a big disappointment... Better than Load because it's less soporific, but the mold is that thanks to such B. (B stands for business) Rock, Metallica have gone from the most metal metal group that ever existed to a Pop/metal/hard Rock group (Also see the look that changed in a chameleon-like and sudden way from '94 - last dates of the Black Album tour to '95-96 just before the release of Load...)
I don't think anything else can be added, I just hope for a miracle from Rick Rubin...

Tizy ferro, I’m tolerant, I won’t insult you because it’s not my style, nor will I mock you for what you listen to because I listen to everything. The only things I can agree on are the beauty of the Master solo and the unparalleled Orion, but to say that:
1) The album is confusing and disorganized is a complete nonsense; in fact, it follows a general structure that Metallica have maintained from Ride to Justice Master, obviously starting with SONG1, an acoustic intro or at least a soft and atmospheric one, followed by storms of riffs and grooves, SONG2 the title track, SONG3 slower and more rhythmic, almost martial, SONG4 the "ballad" (provided that songs with those heavy ends can be considered ballads), SONG5 usually the fastest, SONG6 the heaviest, with massive use of double bass, almost "Doom", SONG7/8 the instrumental, always one of the most beautiful, 7/8 closing with the thrashiest thrash in history...
2) To say that it’s worse than Load and Reload (both albums being not very metal... and hardly appreciable from any point of view, except for a few rare flashes...) shows that you don’t really understand much about Metal, so it would have been better to avoid commenting.

Anyone who can't stand Metallica should listen to this masterpiece; if they still say they're some kind of boy band, they're clearly living in a bubble from morning to night.
Guys, this here is, without exaggeration, the ultimate metal album! One of the most legendary in the history of rock in general.
We're not talking about a product, but a legend.
Unfortunately, you realize how far the Metallica have fallen precisely because of the heights they reached with works like the first four, and especially this one... such great nostalgia...
