"it talks about thirty years ago" surely many who experienced music in those years did not know, due to the role of the media in the record market, realities like the Faust or the Velvet Underground, but since they have now gained exponentially greater visibility, it is possible to make considerations on "who was there and did things compared to how others did them." You then talk about simplicity: it will end up boring me, but do you think the songs of Syd Barrett were complex, pompous, or overstructured? Humility would serve you; you haven't understood a damn thing of all the considerations that have been made on this page and beyond.

prog87: so the Queen are more complex than a "happy family" or a "starless"? I'm taking notes.. I agree with many points from Luca LJ's discussion about the Queen, and the general distinction between audiophile enthusiast and fan (fun). Regards

the review is as vivid as usual, but in response to all of Elvis's discography, I would really go with "Tutti Frutti" by Little Richard.. regards

I find what you say to be agreeable, but I would skip over the Tool of Opiate entirely. It's an album that, despite numerous listens, left me wanting more; there were tons of bands like that. Still, I would say that after Aenima it might be time to abandon the invective, even though, as you say, they lived "laterally" before as well, and their more reasoned (and even onanistic, come on) approach still appeals to me a lot. The type of input that the group gives to the listener has simply changed, from raw and furious energy to mechanical "darkness." But the two ā€œWings for Marieā€ on the latest album are great tracks, whether they are Tool or not. Nevertheless, I fear that with the next album they will be declared washed up from the outset, especially by the old guard disappointed by the changes. But after all, I’m the one who viscerally detests Pablo Honey and The Bends by Radiohead in favor of the more cerebral subsequent works, so the parallel with Tool fits perfectly.. :) Regards.

This album is a masterpiece. Comparisons with other bands and allegations of mannerism, I'm sorry, but they just don't fit here. Tool have done exactly what they set out to do, and the album is only formally cold. All the cerebralism and sonic twists perfectly embody the concept behind this block of sound, and the "lateralus" in the title is precisely about understanding the mathematical rules that govern existence, but going further by recognizing the "mystery" that lies behind things and the shadowy zone of knowledge that we have and will always have. The act of living "laterally" and transforming "what was" into "what I wanted it to be" is a clear reference to Nietzsche’s philosophy (the eternal return), but the fact that such a message is conveyed through both the music and lyrics (the title track unfolds according to the Fibonacci sequence, but towards the end the metric rules change as if to indicate, precisely, the rupture) is, in my opinion, a mark of great merit. To claim that 10,000 Days is an unnecessary album means having "completely lost" them already after Aenima, not having had the desire or ability to follow them. Moreover, I don’t even find them that difficult; sure, they can either appeal to you or leave you completely indifferent (or even induce drowsiness), but it seems foolish to point out the lack of certain intentions from a band that has never set such intentions for themselves.

I haven't read the review, but as usual, you praise the most embarrassing episodes of the discographies you "analyze." This album is infinitely ugly, ugly as sin.

As for "the most beloved by Italians," I would have to disagree. Cuccarini, who took over from Carrà for the famous kitchens, I liked quite a bit more. I wonder what happened to her...
