Emerson, Lake & Palmer Works Vol. 2
Voto:
@antoniodeste: I listened to ELP, specifically up to Brain Salad Surgery included. (I mentioned this in my previous post :)) I haven't heard this one, but I specified that my taste judgment (which, by the way, is subjective as is appropriate for such a judgment) is NOT based on this, but on their previous work, among which I believe their "masterpieces" fall. I attributed one to them. Regarding the combination of genres, there is a substantial difference that separates ELP from Davis's Bitches Brew: the reinterpretation. It seems to me that it takes little to approach a genre with non-traditional instrumentation, whereas it’s quite different to attribute different meanings to rhetorical tools of a specific genre. (And here Zappa teaches us) The band doesn’t interest me, but there is indeed a reason (subjective, of course) why it doesn't interest me, and it’s all in what I said; and you can obviously agree or disagree :) @opel: You're absolutely right, I often exaggerate in tone, but the things written often seem more radical than the thought that generated them; I'm happy to retract the last sentence, I didn't mean to offend anyone. But Palmer remains seriously overrated ;)

I nice unfortunately never had the pleasure of hearing them.. regarding the union of rock and classical music, (the Moody Blues are, among other things, another band I can't stand) considering that for those who write, this combination is as appropriate as a so-called cabbage at snack time, (the result is no longer rock, and it's certainly not classical anymore, at most it's very very kitsch) the opinion I expressed above is subjective and is simply sensitive based on the records I've listened to, (up to Brain Salad) among which this Works, which I believe I will never listen to, is not included and therefore is not the starting point for my "critique". It was indeed a passage, but allow me to say that for what it was and for what it will be (or what it could be) this musical experience is at least irrelevant.

and indeed I hate them. In my opinion, they are the worst thing ever spawned by British prog, and I’m also referring to their first two works. (Masterpieces? According to what standards?) Palmer seems to me grossly overrated (I judge his drum parts in ELP, especially those on Trilogy and Brain Salad Surgery) and Lake, after KC, has worked hard to sing in the worst possible way. Emerson produces some obscene sounds (sometimes indistinguishable from MIDI, other times simply excellent as accompaniments for asteroids and space invaders...) and beyond the technique, I see very little else.. That said, I really like the review precisely because it is objective and concise, and also because I'm biased ;)
