I don't know much about Wire, and as far as I knew, punk was an English phenomenon, go figure... :-) I appreciate a bit of post-hardcore, Black Flag, Hüsker Dü (all pretty recent for me, you know), and a friend of mine has just gotten really into The Clash, which is why I started checking them out, and they seemed fun and quite carefree.

At least Mika has good taste, Grace Kelly (the actress) was truly stunning. This shows that he’s not even gay (in case that interests anyone, and judging by the comments, it would seem so).

In my opinion, you mix attitude with music... Musically, they were appreciable, whether or not they are real punks (and I don't know them particularly well). For me, if it hadn't been for the "musical revolution" of '77, I would be living a much better life. Rock shouldn't have gone beyond the prog and hard rock heavyweights of the '70s; I really didn't feel the need for this "return to origins." I know, I'm a dinosaur... "somebody is digging my bone."

@enbar77: Personally, I would attribute an undeniable qualitative content to these albums (but the last two remain the best, in my opinion), even though I don't believe they were some kind of musical revolution. I remind you that when the Beatles released Sergeant Pepper (great album, for sure), there were also the debut works of VU and Pink Floyd around. I may be stating the obvious, but as usual, let's give Caesar what is Caesar's and not grant the four lads from Liverpool what doesn't belong to them.

@Grantnicholas: re-read Alessio's comment, revisionism is going in the opposite direction to what you think...
@Fullmentalkaos: but who has ever said that Freddie Mercury sucks because he’s gay? but who has ever said that Freddie Mercury sucks? Of course, he wasn’t the greatest voice in history...

how much I hate bonus tracks, they ruin the magic of the album! A striking example in Syd Barrett's records

Whether it is or not, they had a nice touch of good taste, something that the Sex Pistols completely lacked (but that's what makes them likable, after all...) Interesting read anyway.

very nice review, excellent album.
I consumed it a year ago, listening to it practically every day, finding something interesting each time that I had previously overlooked. However, I also heard the other albums and liked them much less; Oceanic is beautiful, but perhaps a bit indecisive, and the last one was disappointing for me precisely because of the loss of magic due to certain atmospheres and certain "voids" that were atmospherically magical. The best thing about this band is the deep expressiveness that comes from the riffs and harmonizations between the guitars, creating melodies that are simultaneously cold and soft, and that do not require the "more" provided by vocals, which often ruin the atmosphere. Too much singing in the last one, never truly engaging.
In conclusion, I would say that duplicates are welcome when they are written with such passion :-)
