@lux: listen to the album until the sixth track or so and let me know: you didn't even mean to, but you've really downloaded the worst ones.. (the drop in inspiration towards the end of the album that I mentioned earlier)

"dell'impero delle tenebre" was a beautiful record, and even though I’ve never heard these Zu, maybe it's worth giving them a listen.. cheers :)

Ah, then the prevailing foreign admiration always fills the absence of reasons to harshly critique a valid work with the "citation/plagiarism hunt," as if a riff shouldn't necessarily share at least two out of three chords with other songs.

I was waiting for the review. I had thought about doing it myself, but I foresee that this is just the first of many. I've been listening to the album on loop for two days now, and I must say that to speak poorly of it one has to start from the critical assumption typical of someone preparing for a harsh criticism, talking about what Afterhours are and aren't as a band and very little about the music. The album rocks; "tarantella all'inazione" is, in my opinion, a killer track, and the one you praise ("tutto domani") is perhaps the worst (the second half of the album shows the only drops in tone of the work...). The downsides are some overly autobiographical lyrics (the kind of: "why should I care?") and there’s a hint of self-indulgent basking. But I find it original.

a sufficient review for an album that is only saved by "echoes," "one of these days," and the sweet "a pillow of winds," which you don't even mention.. The rest of the record is unnecessary.

I discovered them with Amputechture, which, despite its long-windedness and tangents, remains my favorite. They passed through Alcatraz in Milan, and I went to see them—two and a half hours of twists and improvisations that were, all in all, enjoyable but physically exhausting for everyone present: they're not suited for long playing; in the long run, they can get tiring. To the "detractors" (that term makes me laugh), I recommend a less "academic" and more detached, almost "sensory" approach (what a ridiculous term..) because I don't believe that all the parts perceived as fluff are genuinely so, even in terms of composition. In my opinion, they give the impression of being unable to contain their creativity and wanting to record all their insights, as if trying to provide a comprehensive snapshot of their music. But unlike prog rock/metal, their music sounds and is conceived in a much more instinctive way, and the motifs are catchy but never overly studied. Regards.

Trent has really messed things up, though. We talk so much about his stupid antics that I've forgotten he would also be a rock composer.

the latest slayer will make you laugh for the lyrics and the attitude, but musically it’s the best you could ask for (right now) from the band. I don't think anyone expects or expected new ideas or new artistic directions from them...
