Renaissance Ashes Are Burning

What an amazing band!! Annie Haslam's voice is unique, unmatched!! In "Ashes are Burning," it sends chills down your spine. I think this album is one of their peaks, just like the self-titled debut with Jane Relf on female vocals, alongside her brother Keith (former voice of the Yardbirds!)

Derivatives.... we always return to the same old discussion. I think there are many who make this kind of remarks: In some cases, you’re good at quoting and reworking the great classics, in others, you’re derivative and do nothing but copy. My opinion is that these guys really know what they’re doing! I've seen them live several times and they've always been great concerts, intense and well played. As for this EP, I agree with those who say they’ve done better in other EPs, but there are still some good ideas in this one.

@ Grant: You can't tell me that Force of Nature and tracks like Born on a Different Cloud barely pass muster!! They're much better than other tracks on "Be Here Now." Of course, I guess it all comes down to personal taste....

No, sorry Grant: why are you bringing up figures and numbers? To me, they are just meaningless... and then you bring in two of the least successful songs by Oasis, because if we take a good look, "Stand By Me" isn't really that unrepeatable gem people want to believe it is: it's too long and, even though it hits you on the first listen, after a while it gets tiresome. "Don't Go Away" is boring and repetitive. If we really want to pick some gems from this album, it's much better to choose "D'You Know What I Mean," which, for me, is the essence of the Oasis sound, "Magic Pie," a real gem, far better than "Don't Go Away," and "The Girl in The Dirty Shirt," where you can sense a certain "McCartneyan" influence. Not to mention "All Around The World"... To me, "Heathen Chemistry" is much more cohesive, produced and played much better!

Good review, but the album isn't that bad. They have certainly done better. Lastly: Magic Pie sung by Liam???? Are you really sure????
Caravan In The Land Of Grey And Pink

Yes, Ole. The Caravan are, along with Camel and Soft Machine, my favorite Canterbury bands. So I definitely recommend "Waterloo Lily," which, while being much more challenging and less melody-driven than this one, is still a good work; then definitely "Cunning Stunts," which, as I mentioned earlier, mirrors "In The Land..." in the album structure, but the songs are of a lower level (though still maintaining excellent standards, in my opinion!). Finally, the "Live at Fairfield Halls" from 1974, released a few years ago, is an absolutely unmissable live compilation. These are the essentials for me. The others are all of excellent quality, but I repeat: if you need to stick to the essentials, go for the three I've recommended!

I agree with Ole that the voice is perfect for the atmospheres of this album. Furthermore, I would like to recommend to Psycho, in addition to the previous album, also the following ones up to Blind Dogs at St. Dustan's. That's where the interesting Caravans end. After that, it's just routine, but not even done well... Unfortunately...

Beautiful review. For me, the album is one of the greatest masterpieces of progressive rock, if not of all music. Here, Caravan reaches their peak and they won't be able to replicate it fully, except in flashes (I really like "Cunning Stunts," which structurally echoes this album, but of course "In The Land...." is on another planet). "Nine Feet Underground" is one of the best prog suites ever written. This is an album that you listen to in one go, one that doesn’t allow you to do anything else but immerse yourself in the dazzling beauty of this music.
Genesis And Then There Were Three

Nice album. Certainly not their best, but very pleasant. Especially nice are "Undertow," "Burning Rope," and "Many Too Many." Absolutely detestable is "Follow You Follow Me," I've never been able to stand it. I think it's definitely among the three ugliest songs ever written by Genesis (the others are "Invisible Touch" and "Just a Job To Do").

For me, the most beautiful is I Talk To The Wind...
