Hal, the one about the Dolomites by Dave Douglas I got three weeks ago, and you're right, it's beautiful, but I'm talking about "Dave Douglas - Tiny Bell Trio - Constellations" (hatOLOGY 542) (by the way, I couldn't find it on Allmusic...) here’s Douglas's comment...[Constellations is a new set of songs written and arranged for the trio. It was recorded in mid tour, and so has a different, perhaps more live, character ... Many thanks go to Brad and Jim for their dedication and commitment to the music. They are two of the finest listeners around, and in our three years as a trio, we've developed split-second reaction times and true fluidity between roles of soloist and accompanist. The main thing is that we've integrated our own sound into the many materials presented. — Dave Douglas]
Here where I live, there's a shop with a formidable jazz catalog, the largest and most splendid catalog I've ever seen, for me even more than online sites... I just keep going there in the evenings, after an aperitif, and I buy something... because I always find something!

Hal, don’t say that! I just got The Way Up and I still need to listen to it (I’ve been recommended it too...). I’ll tell you... If you want something truly interesting, check out the Free America collection, a French label, [http://free-america.artistes.universalmusic.fr/] with unreleased editions, in deluxe digipack version (once you see them, you’ll go crazy—they’re fantastic!... a bit for record fetishists...). There are Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy, Emergency, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Dave Burrel, Archie Shipp, and many others... all AMAZING! And another label you can trust for sure is Hat-Hut/Hatology (the latest Dave Douglas released by them is a blast!).

Hi Hal, I just wanted to tell you that you've made some great purchases! The '91 one with Paul Motian Trio from W&W and the new one on ECM (also Paul Motian Trio) I have both and they are astonishing (but anyone who's listened to them thinks the same as I do...)... Speaking of purchases, my latest is the "megabox" by Albert Ayler (the one with 9 CDs...)... it's a MUST-HAVE!... Plus, I managed to grab (since it's the anniversary) the Savoy box with the complete Dial and Savoy recordings of Charlie Parker, now hard to find...

Great review, Hal. I haven't listened to the album because I've been told that, compared to the others, it's a bit formulaic, an easy assignment done well. I’ll tell you, since I’m going to pick it up today. Instead, I already got Ritcher 858 which is a blast! Exceptional and a bit cerebral listening, far from the usual Frisell (and with top-notch collaborations).

The genre is Hip-hop/Rap underground, but the definition fits VERY tightly. Dalek, Cloddead, El-P, Antipop-Consortium are some of them. There are others in the underground scene. cLOUDDEAD have already left us after two groundbreaking albums, while El-P aka El Producto is a pioneer of the genre, having been part of Company Flow and boasting collaborations with Mos Def, Blackalicious, but especially Dilated Peoples. (By the way, in 2004 he collaborated with William Parker and Matthew Shipp from Thirsty Ear in the jazz realm—and I want to mention Spring Hell Jack). But let's not forget Odd Nosdam, Mike Ladd, Dj Vadim, New Flash, Aesop Rock, Cannibal Ox... all together they are UNMISSABLE for anyone looking for a fresh breath of air in the now stagnant hip-hop scene, of which, by the way, I'm not a fan... I approached the above groups through minimal electronics...

Hello Zion, I'm on break...
So, I bought everything from cLOUDDEAD, I'm looking for El-P, from Antipop I only got the works from Thirsty Ear (which publishes what I believe are the best jazz records out there)... I will also listen to what you recommended!
See you later!

Great review Zion, just like the album. I don't listen to much hip-hop, I recently picked up cLOUDDEAD, Antipop-Consortium & Matthew Shipp (Thirsty Ear) and now I've moved on to Dalek, of which I've also got the previous one. AMAZING

You're right, I have that album and it's exactly as you say... the latest one, on the other hand, doesn't measure up to Beaches and Canyon...

Hello again Giubbo...so, the Lightning Bolt are similar to the Sightings but with a more robust and organic sound, more metal...however, it's like with the glitch...it seems easy to assemble a hodgepodge of sounds and call it noise (or work on a laptop and say it sounds like Fennesz...). There are a lot of crap out there, everything needs to be evaluated calmly...the Lightning Bolt are great, the Noxagt too...at Load they have an impressive roster...(Arab On Radar and Khanate to name a couple) so you can definitely count on them and feel at ease... I read "trellheim"...I'll definitely go see Oneida (job commitments permitting...)

mhhh...yes, I liked it, a "brainy" listen...I know Wolf Eyes but I don't have any of their albums...I like Noxagt and Lightning Bolt...even though lately I've been focused on Fennesz, Isis, and jazz...which gives me more satisfaction than many records coming out these days...
