a nice piece of history, a nice piece of shit. the only decent thing is the self-titled album, not coincidentally the least motley crue of their discography...

great review, a unique style and a very high level of writing. I don't care about the album, but everything else is excellent.

THE COMMENT SECTION IS MADE TO START A DEBATE: WHY DO SOME REVIEWERS NOT RESPOND TO NEGATIVE CRITICISMS BUT ONLY SHOW UP IN REVIEWS WITH POSITIVE CRITICISMS?

I’d rather prefer death metal, especially Individual, because I really appreciate the technique of the band members... but Morbid Angel, no!!! I have Altars of Madness and I can’t help but doze off. At most, I can tolerate brutal death, like Pig Destroyer, nothing more sophisticated...

@ memento: yes, I hate death metal with all my heart; yet I recognize that Death and Cynic are great bands, but I just can't understand the reason behind this musical genre, as cold and cerebral as black metal, despite the themes, which are warm and vibrant. I listen to it and think to myself: when is the song ever going to take off? There’s nothing out of place, no flaws, no dissonance... it's just thrash played quickly and technically for a socially higher audience... meh.

defining progressive metal as Control Denied seems like an insult (to true prog and to Control Denied); the choice of adopting Tim something as a singer seems spot on, and it should have been chosen already for the last Death albums, like the latest one, where it would have helped a lot. And the ending: how can one say he was one of the most influential names in progressive metal!?!?!?!?! prog-metal is another thing!! mahhhh

Good review. It’s not my field, of course, but the definition of their peculiar style doesn’t seem quite right: the voice is more cynical than angry, nasal, and the riffs are not so much powerful as they are surgical, precise, aseptic. Anyway, it’s just a note. Everything is fine.
Peccatum The Moribund People

Yes, but nothing they produced was on par with the early albums, neither Zyklon, nor Peccatum, nor Is as a solo artist: there must be a reason, a transition cannot start from anthems and evolve without returning to the peaks for a period of ten years!

Good review. Too bad the Emperor are reuniting; they can only cause damage since their career so far, while excellent, has been slightly declining...
