Yes, yes, you are absolutely right, the influences of the NWOBHM are clearly evident at the beginning.

From here, I refer to a previous post of mine: "I would really be curious to know if those who talk so much about 'pure thrash' really know what it is." So, please, let's not speak just based on hearsay; let's talk only if we have a solid understanding. And I repeat, the little phrases about Metallica that are so trendy for trying to look cool and tough like real metalheads just make me laugh! (Especially when I'm told that Kill 'Em All is a thrash manifesto... come on!)

Dear Matt, I don't know the Lethe dreamtheaterian you are talking about, since I only use this nickname here on DeBaser. However, I'm not sure if you realize the colossal proportions of the nonsense you’ve stated: like Kill'em All being the only thrash album by Metallica? And Master of Puppets -just to make an example- regarded by everyone as the quintessential thrash album? But let's go in order... if among the early albums of the 4 horsemen there are traces of previous sounds, presenting a still too immature thrash, well I’m precisely talking about Kill 'em All. But which thrash album? James Hetfield was still wearing a Motörhead shirt! This is a speed album, strongly influenced by Lemmy’s records! Too often there’s a mistake in categorizing music by melody or power, and too often there’s confusion between speed and thrash (melodic for the former, violent and powerful for the latter... or vice versa). Well, the dose of melody in Metallica will grow over time, but that doesn’t mean they will drift away from thrash; on the contrary, right after their first work, they will start to give a certain personality to their songs. And this is coming from someone who adores Kill 'em All...

I would be really curious to know if those who talk so much about "pure thrash" actually know what they're talking about. I would be really curious... besides the fact that there are so many people who need to be informed that the early Metallica albums are not the only thrash band that ever existed! Please, those who aren't familiar with the topic should refrain from spouting the usual stupid little phrases that everyone has heard, from critics and non-critics alike, which are often ridiculous or even annoying. Ugh.
