I only agree with myself. A perfectly rigid structure would break like a breadstick, especially at those heights. Horizontal forces must be minimal for skyscrapers, and that's why the structures are very flexible. Taipei 101 has a steel sphere with a diameter of about 2 meters that helps to rebalance it; if the structure were perfectly rigid, it would break in two at the first gust of wind.

The collapse of the towers is perfectly regular. The steel structure doesn't need to melt for the building to collapse. Even just a 20-30% weakening of the elastic modulus results in a significant decrease in the tensile strength of the load-bearing structure, and a decrease that is not as pronounced but still relevant in compressive strength. The collapse was inevitable, and inevitably vertical. They were not designed to withstand impacts of this kind, especially perpendicular to the internal stresses of the structure. From my point of view, they reacted quite well, allowing a couple of hours for people to evacuate (as much as possible) before the collapse.
