Poddo, I listen to music and I listen to it again thoroughly, then I understand what is not developed or what is not refined. Take for example Malmsteen, who is incredibly skilled at playing, but it makes me realize he lacks soul...

But how the hell do those Death songs make you cry???!!! When I play SOF 2, I crank up the Death or Children of Bodom, and that's why I have a blast killing people while I listen to that soundtrack. But if I want to cry, I listen to Tallulah by Sonata Arctica, Forever by Stratovarius, Hollow Years by Dream Theater, and more... I'm not saying that melody is everything; technique and elaboration are also necessary.

I imagine you, Moonchild, as someone who gets mad over nothing, annoys others just to find a reason to lash out at someone, but just chill out...

Poddoski, I also have CDs of Death and Slayer at home that I sometimes listen to anyway. They are technical as hell, but not very melodic. I saw an interview with Nevermore, and the guitarist seems to be one of the best around. Then Moonchild by Death, Nevermore might have slipped in a catchy tune here and there, but for the most part, it’s all heavy. Could you hum a Death song on the street? But in a power metal album, 10 out of 12 songs are catchy.

And it's not even true that the instrumental scheme is always the same.

So let's talk seriously: for me, good music is: MELODY + TECHNIQUE + LYRICS = TOGETHER (it's the same theory stated some time ago by a certain Down Town). What does a trash-death band have? Technique, but there's little melody... What does a classic rock band have? Melody, but they are generally not very technical. Power metal has both requirements.
