AA.VV. Gods Of Metal 2009

For a day like that, I wouldn't have paid even 5 euros! The most interesting groups were ignored, and that says it all. Anyway, I think I'm a "heavy-ignorant" because if I could have gone to Gods, I would have chosen the day after (and probably with the Dream Theater, I would have run away after a couple of songs).

Hardrock92: I believe there are some stylistic common denominators among the so-called grunge bands (a certain underlying existentialism, a pronounced tendency to alternate melody and noise,...) even though they are different from each other and even if the word "grunge" has often been trivialized and reduced to a stereotype. One cannot talk about a "grunge" genre, but rather about a "grunge" phenomenon, a "grunge" movement, a "grunge" subculture. Look, it's also a phenomenon that has sociological relevance. At university, the professor of the sociology course I attended, who is also an excellent connoisseur of music, cited grunge when discussing subcultures.

hardrock92: "hard rock has a sound...metal does too...psychedelia another yet"... Are we sure about that? It seems to me that Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Blue Öyster Cult were, despite some minimal common denominators, quite different from each other. Does metal have a sound? Which metal? Honestly, I can't find anything more opposite than the typical distortions of power metal compared to those used by Napalm Death, and yet both power and grindcore are considered two metal subgenres. Does psychedelia have a sound??? There couldn't be a more heterogeneous and assorted thing, even if we allow the usual minimal common denominators.

Franci! Allow me to disagree: the Pearl Jam did not jump on the bandwagon; keep in mind that Gossard and Ament were among the founders of that scene with Green River. Saying that the Pearl Jam were opportunists does not do justice to the band (though to each their own, it's worth noting that Vedder and his bandmates also presented an aspect of this musical scene), especially to two of them, who have been and will forever be indispensable for grunge.

You could definitely have tried harder. Critiques don’t help by hurling insults and spewing vulgarities (I personally find it stupid and senseless, as well as in poor taste, to compare food turning into shit). I won’t give you another 1 to save on my vote; I hope to read you again... But step up your game. Lousy record, sickly sweet, a blend of clichéd and manipulative melodies with crude rhetoric. Nice quote from comment n.6 :-)

I am also unfamiliar with his solo career, but certainly this skeletal track-by-track, based on clichés and basic comments on each piece (like: we start with song X which is nice, then we move on to Y which doesn’t really say much to me, and so on), certainly doesn’t help beginners, and I’m sure those who know the album will agree that the author could have written soooo much more! Not so much in terms of quantity, but in terms of substance.

I think the only possible way is through downloading. I knew the first part because I have a collection of various artists from the English psychedelia period 65-70, then I searched for the second part on the web.

I've never heard it, but I'm also in the mood for some worship, so it seems like this could come in handy. By the way, what happened to Simper?

And yes, let me say it, they’ve really broken my balls with this De André! With all due respect to him. Moreover, it doesn’t even seem like they have that much respect; they charge a hefty price to play De André for the entire repertoire and then hastily grant a couple of encores (always E’ Festa and Impressioni Di Settembre). It seems to me they’re speculating and profiting quite a bit from the memory of poor Faber!
