@antoniodeste: WR live never, I wasn't of age... I certainly don't mean to deny the immense role of JP as a musician tout court. The issue, as you understood, pertained to something else, namely the greater functionality of AJ versus JP. From other comments, it seems to me that, without AJ, WR wouldn't have been what we know... while without JP, WR was already a reality.

Very interesting comments: but I take advantage of this opportunity to raise a doubt: isn't it that in the economy of WR the work of an Alphonso Johnson was more useful than that of a Pastorius? I have always thought he was a funky and inventive bassist, with the risk of polarizing too much attention on himself and less on the ensemble as a whole [thus a solo artist by definition, or accompanied by sidemen...]. I await your thoughts.

@ilfantasticovegetale: Octopus is great, it defines their style as "classic"; as highlighted in the Interview review, it aims more at redefining the genre and repositioning the band in the music scene of the time. If you like prog in its strictest sense, go for Octopus. Otherwise, focus on this.
