The SOAD are alternative metal. They cannot be nu-metal: they don't rap, they don't do scratching, they don't sing over pre-recorded tracks (exemplified by Slipknot). And those who say that you can be nu-metal even without these elements are greatly mistaken, because these are universally the pillars of nu-metal. At most, they can be defined as crossover, due to some sounds from the first album... but the definition is quite incomplete, because the term "crossover" does not include electronic synths, does not encompass the Arabic-sounding melodies, does not include anything, in short, of the elements that made the Armenian-Los Angeles band famous.
