John Zorn Cobra: Studio Version
Voto:
An extremely cryptic and difficult album to review. Well done, Dante, this is an excellent hit. "Cobra" seems to communicate more through silence than through sound. Everything is very understated, yet the construction and orchestration that Zorn stages behind it is captivating. Let's say that, while I have no doubts about the exceptional quality of the overall experiment, this is the John Zorn that I have least approached so far and which, at least for now, seems quite challenging to me. I much prefer it when he doesn’t hold back with these minimalisms, which require great attention and a lot of patience: I feel closer to the Naked City, the recent loud collaborations with Mike Patton, the soundtracks, and, of course, the various intersections of Masada and Book Of Angels, which for me is Giovanni's true stronghold.

I agree, this FilmWork here is one of the best ever. Similar to "The Treatment" for its use of some lounge sections (the title track) and for various French expressions sprinkled here and there, yet always able to infuse new contaminations that verge on the incredible (the guitar and accordion dialogue in "Shifting Sands" is spine-chilling). Great performances by both Ribot and Burger, never disappointing. "Lonely Are The Dumb," too, is a piece that really resonates. I highly recommend watching the film in question, directed by Loren Marsh: it's not a masterpiece, but Zorn's soundtrack represents the perfect complement to it. Nice job, Morning.

Well, I invite you to listen to the demo from last winter. I believe you would slightly reconsider your judgment on the album. No complaints about the live performance, exceptional.

Kisses everywhere to everyone, even to new fakes of whose existence I have no suspicion. Briefly, so as not to bore you: @Ghemi, I’ve seen them live, indeed, a little over a month ago. Extraordinary. The live set was very short, around thirty-five to forty minutes, but so powerful and focused that it had me over the moon. The first three tracks were terrifying: in a row "Beastie", "Help Me!" and "Yeah, Yeah Everything". A punch that could have killed a horse. It’s a shame about the crowd, not too small but not too large either. Not only that, but this year I've already interviewed them twice. We've become friends :) As a proud Padovan d.o.c., I'm proud of them. Now I need to find a suitable zoomorphism for myself... @everyone else: thanks for passing by. A special thanks to Francesco and Alessio and, @Telespalla: and who is leaving? I am a parasite :DD Hitchhiker's guide to all!

A couple of months ago, I had the (un)fortune of listening to "They Say". I was stunned. Nothing more, nothing less. A little rock 'n' roll tune worthy of Bon Jovi. And yet you know how much I love System. But Malakian, enough. He has devastated the uallara. He can't sing and he keeps going. And going. And going. Someone put him out of his misery, for his own good. Confidence vote (perhaps too much at this point).

We want to see the Faculty of Cartography! (It's gone down a bit for me, though, since I last heard it).
