Black Sabbath Born Again
Voto:
Immense album, both in its strengths and weaknesses. Unfortunately, the production is something terrible (you can find the demos around that are quite good; those interested can look for them in the purple hub online). Anyway, in his latest biography DVD, Gillan and Iommi shared a ton of anecdotes about this album: I should clarify right away that Gillan's farewell to Sabbath was due to the sirens of the purple, who reunited the following year. "Disturbing the Priest" is dedicated to the priest from the nearby village of Richard Branson's villa (because that’s where they recorded the album), who came to complain about the noise that the four were constantly making; "Trashed" talks about the incident where Gillan completely destroyed Geezer Butler's car (Branson had a race track in his garden).... and so on. Anyway, the album has always been heavily criticized, but every time I listen to it, I'm blown away: it’s probably the most violent in the entire Sabbath discography... splendid!
AA.VV. Metal For Muthas
Voto:
great review, an extremely important album even if perhaps a bit overly contextualized. one clarification: paul di'anno, dennis stratton, and clive burr moved on to p.m. after they were let go by maiden...
Carlo Verdone Compagni Di Scuola
Voto:
beautiful film, perhaps one of Verdone's most melancholic. the student at the end with the politician is in it, and this increases the sense of "generational" degradation: she doesn't want to become like them but, very likely, she is already like them, if not worse. some gags are a bit too easy but overall it remains a very enjoyable film.
Michael Moore Sicko
Voto:
The fact is that Moore comes off as a bit dishonest (as usual): how the hell can you compare a family of poor American folks starving and struggling to survive with a well-off French family living in the center of Paris? Come on, let's not kid ourselves... not to mention Cuba, where I really think the director is being disingenuous (or maybe he was just there with his eyes covered). I honestly can't wrap my head around it... as for the rest, the film tells a lot of truths and is worth watching, just do it with a bit of critical spirit... the reception is a bit too long.
Oliver Stone JFK
Voto:
probably the best among the films by Stone from a technical standpoint. there’s a lot of malice in portraying Garrison as a martyr for freedom... it remains an excellent film with masterful performances (especially Joe Pesci and Tommy Lee Jones). the problem is that everyone confuses movies with documentaries and believes they’ve learned history after watching a film (but on this, Spielberg is the uncontested leader), which simply cannot be the case. in any case, I liked it a lot and I always enjoy watching it again. great review.

Given the human case, I comment in series, responding in the same way: oh my God, we didn't need yet another anti-Maiden human case...

James L. Brooks Qualcosa E' Cambiato

a film that stands strong thanks to an exceptional performance by Nicholson, a splendid phobic-obsessive... always a delight to watch
