Bob Dylan's albums are ARTISTICALLY superior even when, at times, they are not musically... that is, a little blues number with 4 chords, but maybe with an amazing text... or with a particular way of singing... there are certainly historically important albums that are not musically valid (in the strict sense, I keep repeating!)... like Nevermind the bollocks... it’s played by dogs, by people who had no musical talent whatsoever... and yet they “communicated artistically”… I myself listen to the album, and I like it, but you can't come and tell me that the Sex Pistols are valid musicians!

Well, I don't agree... "Where Do We Go From Here" was one of the first songs to intrigue me... and it's decontextualized from the album... and I say this as a positive thing ;)

Someone who wants to convey the idea that Dinosaur Jr (and all indie) are simply fun and casual, without any great ambitions ---> from a STRICTLY musical point of view, sure!...come on, in the end, it’s always the same chords...but I never said they are CASUAL and WITHOUT GREAT AMBITIONS in a broad sense...even Dylan is without great "musical" pretensions...but overall (and thus considering the lyrics as well) it doesn't make sense to claim that!

"I bet you bring up the issue of technique, formal elegance, and structural complexity, which in indie (thankfully) are not predominant!!?" ---> But in the end, you reason it out if you put your mind to it, my dear Lux... more or less that’s what I wanted to say... in the sense that from an artistic point of view, perhaps the significance of indie is not overrated, but from a strictly musical standpoint (and I stress STRICTLY), in the end, it’s just 4 chords, a bit of fucking noise guitar, and some catchy tunes... like Teenage Riot, you know what I mean... the same can be said about Bob Dylan (still talking strictly about MUSIC, that is, chords & arrangements & melodies)... it’s not a matter of technique... it’s a matter of ideas... indie is overrated musically, just as Punk is... but how many times have they complained about the Sex Pistols? ... their cultural significance far outweighs their musical one! And then... yes, I’m a fan of Dream Theater, just like you were once. But don’t think I’d throw the DT out there as an example of cultured music... they have their own flaws, including verbosity, technicality for its own sake in certain passages (sometimes to hide some banal pop ideas)... but the difference between you and me is that you trash what isn’t ABSOLUTE, while I don’t... Scenes from a Memory is spectacular, Systematic Chaos may not be a masterpiece but it’s a nice album... you can’t compare everything to Rock Bottom or Exposure! Otherwise, there would be nothing left... it’s like comparing Maradona and Pelé, it doesn’t make sense!

Chill out, listen to those you don't know from the list... and even if Indie is overrated, it's a fun genre after all "Minchia ci hai capito tutto dei Dinosaur Jr, davvero Chinà." ---> I like them... I compare them to Frank Zappa just to provoke ;)
