What would come out if Alice Cooper decided to make a pure heavy metal album? The answer is "Raise your fist and yell," beautiful, dark, atmospheric, and ahead of more renowned heavy metal bands. Prince of darkness also features in the soundtrack of my favorite horror film, "il signore del male" by Carpenter.

A bit overrated. There are certainly remarkable pieces like the title track, for instance, or one of his best ballads "only women bleed," but the rock energy of the early days is somewhat toned down here, and everything feels a bit contrived. Nice but not a masterpiece; Alice Cooper has done better. 3.5

In my opinion, the highest point reached by grunge, even if we're doing a disservice to this album by labeling it simply as grunge. Stanley's voice is the most desperate and sincere I have ever heard.

I was a bit disappointed by the album (compared to their very high standards), especially in the more intense tracks that feel out of place. Even the final "violence," despite being beautiful and lasting 10 minutes, gets a bit tedious in the fast parts. Yet, the rest is always filled with great class and moving melodies; however, the best song is the title track, sung by a female voice that evokes Portishead. 3.5 rounded up to 4.

The avant-garde turned into music, there is truly everything in this album, a blend of genres that makes the arcturus' proposal incredibly original. "the chaos path" is already history, although I must say I find it a bit too self-indulgent and scattered. They will reach true maturity with "the sham mirrors," where they will become more communicative.

original project that involves various voices and instrumentalists. Perhaps a bit too scattered (not as much as the subsequent ones), but with some musical gems that are hard to find elsewhere! Don't be fooled, this is the best Ayreon cd and I'm sure it will surprise you with many songs.
