Gentle Giant: Acquiring The Taste
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
The atmosphere created is unique, nocturnal, metropolitan, yet at the same time calm, never threatening. There’s the giant who protects us.

Truly unique, the sounds and atmospheres of this album have not been found in the subsequent, albeit wonderful, records by the Giant. Yet it gives me different sensations. Nighttime and twilight, yes, but not metropolitan; it's ancient, sometimes "metaphysical" or "otherworldly." And it doesn't reassure me; at times it's unsettling, restless, yes, a little threatening. Yet it’s also romantic, or fierce. As always, in their music there is everything, and everything is crafted to perfection in a style of exceptional uniqueness.

Once you "acquire the taste," it sticks with you for life.

Group I know very little about. Have they happened to make any nice songs with good solos?

Solos of what instrument? We have electric guitar, drums, various keyboards, vibraphone... Go ahead, go ahead.

Mainly guitar, but I don't mind keyboards either.

I almost forgot the electric violin :D Anyway, there's this from the first album, just to mention one. Gary Green was an amazing guitarist, just as all the members of the band were phenomenal.

"Everything is chiseled to perfection" I like. It conveys the idea of intertwining and preciosity, but in a harmonious unicum.

I liked the piece, what title do you give me for the keyboards?

Kerry Minnear was not one for showy solos, even though he might be the most skilled and technically proficient keyboardist of them all; it's easier to find his incredible vibraphone solos (he graduated from the conservatory on that instrument, even though he is a multi-instrumentalist and divine singer). Here you can get a taste of it. The fact is that Minnear, as a keyboardist, pianist, vibraphonist, supporting guitarist, singer, and composer, was effectively the backbone of the band, the irreplaceable jack-of-all-trades. He is everything in the GG sound.
