Gentle Giant: Acquiring The Taste
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
The atmosphere created is unique, nocturnal, metropolitan, yet at the same time calm, never threatening. There’s the giant who protects us.

Truly unique, the sounds and atmospheres of this album have not been found in the subsequent, albeit wonderful, records by the Giant. Yet it gives me different sensations. Nighttime and twilight, yes, but not metropolitan; it's ancient, sometimes "metaphysical" or "otherworldly." And it doesn't reassure me; at times it's unsettling, restless, yes, a little threatening. Yet it’s also romantic, or fierce. As always, in their music there is everything, and everything is crafted to perfection in a style of exceptional uniqueness.

Group I know very little about. Have they happened to make any nice songs with good solos?

Solos of what instrument? We have electric guitar, drums, various keyboards, vibraphone... Go ahead, go ahead.
  • Onirico

Mainly guitar, but I don't mind keyboards either.

I almost forgot the electric violin :D Anyway, there's this from the first album, just to mention one. Gary Green was an amazing guitarist, just as all the members of the band were phenomenal.

"Everything is chiseled to perfection" I like. It conveys the idea of intertwining and preciosity, but in a harmonious unicum.

I liked the piece, what title do you give me for the keyboards?

Kerry Minnear was not one for showy solos, even though he might be the most skilled and technically proficient keyboardist of them all; it's easier to find his incredible vibraphone solos (he graduated from the conservatory on that instrument, even though he is a multi-instrumentalist and divine singer). Here you can get a taste of it. The fact is that Minnear, as a keyboardist, pianist, vibraphonist, supporting guitarist, singer, and composer, was effectively the backbone of the band, the irreplaceable jack-of-all-trades. He is everything in the GG sound.

I have two vinyl copies. Maybe I'll buy the CDs...
Jethro Tull: Thick As A Brick

this is a masterpiece. In the true sense of the word: an excellent work, that is, superior to others of its kind. Understood not as an absolute because we acknowledge the contemporary coexistence of multiple masterpieces.

I admit. The sentence is quite convoluted. The idea is to not grant absolute primacy that is useless. One goes to the museum to see many works, not just one. Sometimes I end up getting myself all tangled up.
Jethro Tull: Aqualung

Will it be understood why the vinyl of this album is now worn out?

It is the price of Glory.
Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin IV
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
I’ve noticed that this album sparks quite a heated controversy. It certainly doesn’t leave anyone indifferent: that’s something. However, I have a feeling that talking bad about it is pretty cool (is “cool” the right word?)...

Is anyone "talking bad" about "Untitled"?! There are plenty of psychiatrists around. This is among the top 5 rock albums in history! Talking bad about Led Zeppelin is just more than cool...

There is truly a delta missing for definitive maturity. Yet in this last hint of shyness, they may be even greater.

They are two very different albums. There was no more Folk here.

I completely agree that they are two different albums. I'm 90% sure about the absence of the folk matrix. The title track of the album has a cadence that seems folk to me. I still find something in Shine On Silver Shine (IMHO). The beauty of music is that we could discuss it endlessly. Thanks for the comments; they are helpful for me to progress and to help me navigate here on debaser (I've only been a member for a day). Until next time!
After finishing the listening session and moving on to the scale, all in all a good record. The album showcases the band's desire to push beyond the confines of their initial folk production to develop an opening towards a folk-rock sound with a vaguely progressive flavor.
Strawbs: Bursting At The Seams
Vinile I have it ★★★★
The misfortune of this album comes from being almost constantly compared to John Barleycorn. If someone decided to evaluate it for what it is, we would notice that it is a truly beautiful album. Whether it is better or worse than John Barleycorn doesn't matter: let’s go make a bit of rain…
Van Der Graaf Generator: Pawn Hearts
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
Someone may wonder if an album like this withstands the test of time. It would make more sense to ask whether time will withstand the test of this album.
